Advice/observations about accepting a job in the industry
As some of you may know I have been involved (with my wife) in the business for a little over 4 years now. Mostly focused on video and working it this way and that, trying to squeeze the best possible quality with the lowest possible file sizes, and I have had moderate success. Recently I was offered a job with a rather large program editing/encoding video for them. I accepted the offer and was relocated to SUNNY Florida from Dark, dismal and COLD oHIo. And I would like to share some observations I had during the entire process, and it may serve as some advice to others thinking about this type of move.
1)No matter what day you planned your move on, or how long in advance, count of his a)It WILL rain. But only when it is dark out, or there is heavy traffic or if you are driving a large truck full of furniture DOWN a mountain with a lot of nice sharp curves whose sole intent is to tip over your 17' square sail. b)Larger trucks, complete with hairy guys wearing ballcaps, dont like you.............EVER. c) Windows down means pushed around........think about it a bit. d)The windshield wipers on your rented moving truck is, in actuality, two metal poles with bacon duct taped to them. Thereby completely obscuring your view each and every time you turn them on. This effect is most easily observed while driving through Atlanta, at night, in a massive thunderstorm in extremely heavy traffic.............This is a sensation I recommend everyone should experience at least once in life. As it provides the perfect oppurtunity to review your entire existance and prioritize.........as in your life flashes before your eyes.........repeatedly, and you learn that your brain can indeed function for the 2 hours or so it takes to drive through Atlanta with it receiving no oxygen. You learn this because you promptly stop beathing, and dont breath again till your somewhere near Florida. I think the lack of oxygen could go a long way to explaining atlanta drivers.........hummm 2)If your new employer seems mildly amusing over the phone, he will be fucking hilarious in person! True story. I have spent roughly 10 hours at my new place of employment and spent most of that time laughing and enjoying the company...........and I'm gonna be getting a paycheck! ssshhhhh dont tell him i had so much fun, he may charge me. 3)If someone chokes when you explain the traffic in Urbana oHIo, and explains that traffic is slightly worse in the Tampa/Clearwater area.............believe them. 4)If you hope to lose weight, dont move to Florida. Oh you'd think all those sexy people in florida would demand nothing but health stores or something. No way, Dunkin DoNuts, burgers, gyros, pizza steaks OMFG! I believe I have gained 20lbs in a little over a week of arriving here. My waistline is starting to attract small satelites. I'll have to rent another moving truck and a driver just to make it to the internext in Florida next summer!! 5)If you feel guilt about telling your new employer about the programs you will be needing to do your job.........dont, at least not if its MY new boss. He is serious about giving his affiliates the absolute best to do what they do. And he isnt shy about providing his people with whatever they need to make it happen (including hockey tickets!! but I go to bed to early) The best advice I can give anyone is to be confident. Know what ya do and how good you do it, and never compromise your own pride. Now as a little side note. I cannot wait to be providing the affiliates of the program in question with the highest quality video files possible with the lowest possible file sizes (think 12 second 352x240 clear as hell with a file size UNDER half a meg each) for you to work your money making magic on. Drive safe, have a healthy, safe & Happy Holiday season no matter how you celebrate it. Make money, spend money and love your family. spaz |

One more tip about the traffic here... over the next few weeks, it's gonna get a HECK of a lot worse!!!! SNOW BIRDS are coming!
Thank God for home office's ![]() I though traffic in MN was aweful... doesn't even compare! As for the food... you HAVE to check out Frenchy's at the beach, the Columbia in YBor, and anywhere on the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs.... all awesome!! Best of luck and welcome to the area! Cheers! ![]() Shannon G

Traffic, don't get me started about traffic…
This is the worse that I have ever seen it here in Fort Lauderdale and the season hasn't really even kicked in yet. The stores, I've never seen them this full, long lines at the checkout so people are actually buying this year. I'm lucky that since I grew up here I know all the back streets and shortcuts so I can avoid a lot of it. Should be a very good new year after all $$$$$…. ![]() It actually got up to 70˚ today. |

If eXtreme SpaZ had called we could have had Krispy Kremes in stead of gasping for oxygen.
There was a reason I told you to call me so you could stop! Congrats on your new gig. Im sure everyone will be eXtremely happy. I anticipate that my new job will bring me down your way for some sitdowns with "the family". |
