I need help - PLEASE

Hello Everyone,

I need some help well actually a lot of help. I have a pay site www.picturepink.com it is about 3 months old. My conversion rate is about 1:500 which is not good. The strange thing is that 90% of my sales come for only 1 affiliate which account for only 10% per day of my traffic. I need some advice on how I can improve my sales ratio my improving my site. I am a photographer not a webmaster. I have not started any submitting to tgp's or mpg's or LL as for yet and am not sure if I should or even how to go about it. So any advice would be really helpful of maybe I should just stick to taking pictures.

Thanks so much for your help
Chris

Welcome to the board!!

Ok the picture quality is very nice! But you are giving away way too many free samples. The first thumb I clicked on took me to 6 pages of free pictures, there is almost 100 of them there.

Then you have ALL these traffic leaks on the bottom to "Feature Partners - See some of the best on the net". That is a bad idea as it takes away from your site and tour.

You don't actually have a "tour". You should have a landing page then maybe a tour where you could then show surfers SOME free pictures and lead them toward the signup page...keep them flowing.

And I want to add that 1:500 is not a bad ratio at all. (Unless that is the signup page ratio which is case could mean blind links to the signup page or simply a bad signup page pitch). A new paysite isn't getting many typin sales so as time goes on the ratio may drop.

The signup page is confusing. Have 1 option!! ASSUME the surfer will rebill. Don't give them a cheaper option and eliminate the rebill. Rebills is where the money is.

The join link off the bottom of the preview pictures is broken (loops back to the index page after an error message.

I agree with Ramster - don't give away the store on the tour. You have way too much free stuff, more than enough for many potential customers to do the deed without taking out the credit card.

Also, look at your tour as a funnel. The top of the funnel is the index page and the join page is the bottom. Make sure that everything that a surfer can do from the index page brings them one step closer to the join page. Don't let people wander around in circles or graze too much - move them on towards the sale.

Plug every traffic leak on your tour. Even the links to the filtering software can lose you surfers... put an unlinked recommendation on there, or replace all those links with a single link to "filtering software information page" that is also on your site. Any unneeded link or circular reference (like the link to your own index page, and your own company name linking to the same index page) should be gone. There should be nothing to distract the surfer from moving forward.

The idea of the site is good, the tour is busy but actually engaging... you have a potential winner here.

Kids are great, Appu. You can teach them to hate the things you hate and they practically raise themselves now-a-days, you know, with the internet and all

Just for the records, as far as I am aware of 1:500 is not to bad for an international site at all. Others are dealing with 1:4000 or even more

So many thanks to the folks here who took the time to help me. I will now go and use the advise that was giving to me here. Wow it is little daunting when you see people with 4 & 5 thousand post I realize how little I know. I will start now to close all leaks I did not think about it as a problem but now I see.

Well......you need to premote your site and program

you need to get more affliates signed up
you need to generate your own traffic

as a photographer you have a lot of advantages over a webmaster that is just buying content

you should try to maximize those advantages :-)
