Looking to build a content site, is there any advice.

From what I have been learning, firstly make sure you have all your ID's and paperwork in place before anything else as later you will struggle at the last minute.
Before I launched Edge Content, I spoke to alot of content store owners and got some good advice and 99.999% of the innitial stuff was make sure you understand the 2257 stuff and you have all the papers for it. If there is a problem with the content, you will be the first one they come to.

Secondly make sure you have a good script and that you have a rough plan what you want to offer and it assists you without giving you a headache to add new content etc.

Thirdly check out processors and any other billing you want to provide and that you can work with them.

The last bit of advice I would say is don't launch until you are 100% ready to, I was anxious and got my head in a spin. It took a while to calm everything down and get the site at a point where I actually could launch it without giving myself a ton of hassle!

Thanks wild, what type of script or software would I need. I only want to shoot and sell exclusive and semi- exclusive, as well as custom. I'm not looking to broker sets. If I have to sale any sets, it will be my own and it would rarely, I hope.

From a purchaser's viewpoint:

1. Don't make me register in order to window shop.
2. I should be able to see a contact sheet of the ENTIRE set.
3. Allow at least 3 full sized (watermarked) samples per set.
4. Do not optimize or shrink your full sized samples. The sample should be a true sample. If your full sized pics appear to be 800x600, most of us won't be interested.
5. CORRECTLY categorize your images and understand the definition of those categories. 'Normal' size tits should not be in busty and so on.
6. Tell us which sets are the newest.
7. Let the customer know how quickly the images/movies will be ready for downoad/shipment BEFORE the sale is complete.

I'm sure there is more, but those are some of my biggest peeves with content shops.

I agree with UW on every point, some of those issues are an instant "go elsewhere and don't go back" problem.
I would also like to add (based on my use of content sites):

- Let me know clearly if I have bought something already.
- If something isn't 2257 compliant make it clear that it isn't.
- Make payment options/Help/FAQ easy to find.

WORD. Nothing is worse then setting aside time to build and buy only to find the one thing holding you up is waiting to get the content.

Today there is no need to wait for your purchased content anymore. I can't understand what the problem is? Usually the purchased content will be copied automatically to your personal ftp account and you can download it even with a server to server connection on 100Mbits. Ok, if you would like to get 100GB of videos, the copy process can take a while, but that's it

If you are not doing the content site as your full time job, you probably better give out your stuff to 2 or 3 different broker shops.

Thanks for all the tips. But I don't want to shop my content. I want to shoot exclusive footage, as well as custom. But I want a site that will let the buyer know what they are getting and that no one else will have it. I don't want a content shop that will sale sets and I really don't want some broker that will tell me they can handle it for me and pay me on sales made, I'd have a freesite and sponsors if I wanted a shave.

Then build a site with head and full body shots of the models you currently have avalible for shooting, along with what type of content each model is avalible for, and keep it up to date. No one wants to hear that this model and that model are no longer avalible, but you have some new ones and you'll send them a picture.

Also have several different ways to contact you to discuss details. And, having at least a rough pricing guideline would be best. Of course you can't be exact without details of what someone wants.
