Deadwood
Anyone watching Deadwood? Here's the thing..I don't care if they swear or not...but do you think they actually used that language to that extent in those days..or is that more of a relatively modern way of expressing oneself? |cool|

Yeah, they explain it in the making of Deadwood. My wife loves the music they play after each episode so I picked up the soundtrack yesterday. They have Jane and Charlie singing Row Row Row you Boat

Why wouldn’t they?
This is the "lawless west" not some eastern city that was “modernized”. They did what they wanted to most of the time and people were killed on a whim, but you don't think they cussed constantly? I bet they did. |

I'm not saying they didn't cuss..I am questioning whether they would have used those two particular words as frequently in those days. Would they have had the same impact or meaning then as they do now? I dunno. I will have to do some research. ![]()

Jane wanting Charlie to join in gets out..."Row row row your boat. Gently down the stream" Then she screams..."God Damn It!" And Charlie joins in :0 |

I'm betting that their language was absolutely deplorable. Maybe even as bad as mine when my Kindergartner punches me in the balls, that evil little cocksucking bastard.

I don't know about the cursing, but I do have a hard time understanding them a bit. They seem to talk in riddles to me - lol! The ones I understand the best are Calamity Jane & the cripple that sweeps the floor - lol!

I see every episode, so I can follow the story Ok, it's just the dialog that confuses me sometimes. I often tape them so I can rewind and try to understand it the second time - lol!
