You don't give enough info to even make a guess at an answer.

But it sounds like fairly typical behaviors both for yahoo and google to me.

For instance, all fairly new pages have a chance of being listed high for a particular search term for a few days at google, after which they will drop to their more likely position for several months, slowly inching upwards as the page ages and backlinks kick in.

I'm less familiar with yahoo, but from what I've been hearing it's become common for pages to do something similar there. Perhaps with a bit less predictability.
