Had a shaved head for basketball (way before it was cool in the early 80's), had hair over down to my shoulders (while in a band in the middle to late 80's), basically run the gamut.
Personally, it's just hair - it can grow back. Though I'd say that long hair only works well when your bangs pulled back meet the full length.
Will be calling the stylist tomorrow for a trim - thanks for the reminder.
