I use DVDs to backup video edits. Video can get pretty large, and the costs of backing the stuff up onto hard drives would be insane (It's not unusual to have 25-30gig per running hour with multiple cameras, graphics, overlays, and preview files). $25 to store a project (assume 4 projects onto a 120gig drive at $100) or 6 dvds at 50 cents a piece... not hard to make the choice. I would prefer to put them on tape, but cheap tape drives fail and good tape drives are shockingly expensive.
