But see, I don't understand this reasoning. If they think I'm only going to send them 3 sales a month, that's still 3 sales a month. And if I ever do get big and wildly popular, I'm going to remember the sponsers that wouldn't waste their time on me when I was just starting out.

You misunderstand me. The hint would be that a sponsor who can't respond in a timely manner probably isn't worth your time.

Exactly. Might give some indication of their level of support. As mentioned most good sponsors have instant activation. I hate it when I have to wait to be approved.
