I agree. Graphics that are easy to decipher very quickly work best. That means simple.

I think the real value in graphics is self-esteem for site owners. Those that like having a pretty looking site spend more time working on it when it does look pretty.

But I know webmasters with ugly looking sites that sell just as well... maybe even better, because they spend all their time on more important things.

I do stuff myself because I'm not willing to pay someone else to do it.
