We got a little snow here and there, just light flurries. When I saw the radar last night and saw the bands of lake effect snow on the lake heading in a general NE direction, I thought to myself... Greenie is probably getting slammed.

Simon, it's actually less likely for this to happen in Feb, because of the nature of lake effect snow. Lake effect snow comes from cold "Canadian" air (the Canadians probably call it Artic air, but we blame Canada ) blowing across the warmer lake and picking up moisture as it goes. Then it hits land and gets shot upwards where it turns into cloulds and then snow.

For this to happen in Feb, we would need to have a pretty warm winter resulting in the lake still being wide open and not covered with ice. Which does happen and it when it does, it can be nasty. The only time lake effect snow stops is when the winds calm or change direction, so it can go on for hours to days. So I ususally root for a nice cold Dec, and early Jan.

There... all you never wanted to know about lake effect snow.
