Ive never really had an issue with HotLinking or any type of TRUE attack (that I know of) but wouldnt an htaccess file help protect your images for the most part? I use dream host and they seem to have everything in place or at least available to users as far as security and protection.

Normally htaccess solves it, but not always on wmv or mpg I hear. I tested my htaccess and found that it blocked me from setting up a hot link. Then again I'm not a hacker... Could be I need to write a better htaccess file. Something I've been looking at. Nothing like getting a pro to do it for ya when you run into problems.

nothing bad to say about dreamhost! The price is good, very good for what you get. Support is via email though and there is something about 24/7 phone support I feel more secure about for some of my sites. Could be that Dreamhost just plain has their act together on security, I don't really know how they'd hold up with a serious attack? I have heard a lot of good about there response to support issues though.
