I never honestly knew that. Although couldn't a combination of the Aspirin and Acetaminophen be what's helping and not just one of them by itself?

I'm certain Caffeine isn't the helper because I get plenty of that on my own. Although I'd certainly be willing to try the Tylenol in the future. When I used to work in a store that had a gas station connected to it they didn't sell Excedrin so I found myself buying Bayer all of the time instead. It did the job also, but for some reason I've always preferred the Excedrin.

Although sometimes I get them so bad that none of these drugs seem to help. When that happens there's nothing to do, but pop a few pills and try to sleep it off.

Lacking Excedrin I've found taking some aspirin while drinking coffee helps.

I think caffeine constricts the blood vessels while the aspirin reduces the pain.
If it is the Aspirin, Bayer has twice as much as Excedrin in the same 'dosage'. The caffeine is supposed to speed up digestion and releases adrenaline which gets Excedrin in the bloodstream quicker. It also does constrict the blood vessels. Most cups of coffee are 80mg+. Two cans of pepsi/coke is about 65mg of caffeine.

For me, Bayer does absolutely nothing which is 100% aspirin. Excedrin doesn't work as well for me as Tylenol. My conclusion is that aspirin isn't doing anything for me. However, not everyone is the same, so, what works for me, may not work for you.

But, now you know the chemistry behind the three major brands.

Between Christy and me we have pretty much at least one over the counter bottle, generic versions, of everything. I even have this prescription of stuff that you blow up your nose and reminds me of doing bad cocaine,

Out of everything generic or name brand Excedrin seems to work the best for me.

Headaches are caused by a variety of things so different things work for different people.
