sigh... part of that may be grieving. Holidays do strange things to people. My late brother's family decided to descend on my mother for Christmas without telling here they were including his disowned pathological daughter. My poor mom had that entire family begging her to accept the lying bitch back into the family, even showing off her bastard daughter (surrogate, sperm donor was some passing boyfriend while she was married to her former husband. This chick is a real piece of work). The real thing is my mother does have savings, she is old, and the lying bitch thinks she will inherit some money from my mom. (She won't.) My mom is in bad shape after that meeting. At times, I do wish I was still back in the states. Perhaps it is safer for all involved if I am safely far away.
