Two Days left for Lance!

Just like last year, I've been riveted to the tv all month watching Lance.

Time trial today - He just started out.

And tomorrow that should be it - Number 7 in a row!
That will Never be done again.

Back to the race and reviews.

Oh yeah, olntv.com OLN network should be on most direct tv and cable companies.

I watched a show on discovery about him. I think it's great he will have done this 7 times more so the cancer he beat. But one part of me thinks its unfair in a sence. Does anyone know this guy has a heart that is almost 2 times bigger then a normal human? Big deal right? Not so in bike racing cause it allows him to pump more oxygen threw his body. So when everyone else is falling back on those crazy ass hills he is riding like he is on flat ground. Well kind of but you all get the idea.

Actually, I think he's just good, and he trains harder, and smarter, than anyone else on the planet. Do Michael Jordan or Larry Bird have a bigger heart than the other NBA players? No, they just worked harder.
Plain and simple, he's a true Champion of the sport. And even after an apparent 7 in a row, he still considers himself as the 2nd best behind Merckx. (Axel's Dad)

When I did my naval academy physical, my resting heart rate was 46, after 3 minutes of jumping jacks and pushups, and a 30 second rest, my heart rate was 58 -- they repeated that test three times because they didn't believe they were counting correctly.

Prior to the physical, I was riding 100 miles a day, 200 on Saturday, and 150 as a 'cooldown' on sundays and tried to keep my average speed above 25mph in hilly Maryland. I ran cross country, was rarely winded after the 3.5 mile course. Ran two triathelons in Maryland/Ocean City, a few biathelons and one marathon. Except for swimming, I did reasonably well. I just wanted to say I had -- although I did have dreams of running the Iron Man.

Since falling into a sedentary lifestyle, my pulse sits around 65 resting and I get winded watching other people work out. haha.

I don't think I had any abnormal heart, but, on his 34 mile run yesterday, he averaged 28.8mph. If I hadn't been riding a heavy bike, and had the slick skins and aerodynamic helmets and stuff, I could have competed with him.

Heart or not there are athletes in most sports that are just better than anyone else. Period. I'm sure there are many people with big hearts but I don't see them out there. He trains and has something inside that is rare and only the bigtime players have when it counts. A burning desire and a big heart (no pun intended. LOL)

Look Im not saying the guy is not talented. But every doc that was on that show that had looked him over stated it surly gave him an advantage. I have hiked threw mountians from 6k to 10k above sea level and would have loved at that time to have a heart almost 2 times the normal size. You think that does not give him an advantage over the over riders your crazy or you never worked out. Your trying to tell me that when they ride in the higher zones of that race that having more oxygen in your body is not an advantage? cd34 you may have been right there with him but lets keep in mind here, the guy is what, on his 20 something day of stright riding and running those speeds. Saying MJ and LB are on the same level is correct, because they are. There is nothing in their bodies that gives them and edge over the other players. But with Lance it's differant a heart 2 times the size of any human will always be an advantage. Maybe you guys dont understand what that means. It means more OXYGEN into the body, which means the muscles are less likly to be tired or stressed like the other riders, which means when he is on mile 5000 his body will be acting totaly differant then the other riders. Is he talented? Sure of course he is, but to sit here and say that does not give him and advantage over other riders is just crazy. Ramstar 100% correct there have been studies that showed the combining the mental and physical talent of some of the big boys is differant then most. Very much like SF and Seals. When I was training you could see in peoples eyes who had it and who did not. There were some that no matter how far we walked would never ever stop until told to do so. And then there were some who would cry after the first 1/2 mile. I agree its something inside that a finger or study will never be able to point out.

What I read was that at 5' 10" he has the heart of a 6' 6" man. Not near twice the size of a normal human. And, that there are 1,000 people between the ages of 15 and 20 in the US alone with "the same physilogical potential".

It also said that that "Armstrong, 33, trains 365 days per year, 450 miles per week and his six and seven hour training rides add up to more time on the bike than any of his challengers."

The heart is a muscle... as sparky was saying, all of that training will have an effect.

Sure it will. I agree training is everything. I'm just telling you what the show stated as far as his heart size. Sure lets take 100 people all with that heart condition and train them all to ride a bike for the next year. Lance would of course win cause he has some hinden talent. You saying that he is 33 years old and has the heart of a 15 or 20 year old. So basicly if you take two average people 1) between 15 and 20 and the other in his 30's and race them the younger should win correct? Well Lance is running a race with the perceived heart of a younger man. There are things in this world that are called "a young mans game" for a reason. Meaning no matter how hard you train, when you get older your body will not react the same way it did when you were younger which give you a disadvantage over a younger person. But you have wisdom which can totaly beat out the young guy. Knowing your body for a longer period of time and how it will react during stress is an advantage. So now lets look at Lance. He has wisdom from all the years riding and he is riding with a so called younger mans heart. Not an advantage over the other 30 somethings in that race?

"Startling facts

Throughout the book, the reader learns startling facts, such as: Armstrong's heart is one-third larger than most males', and that his body is able to process lactic acid (the stuff that makes muscles burn) far more efficiently than other cyclists. Lance's engine, Doyle says, can produce more power with less pain, making him "the alpha, the meanest, the toughest"

I wish I could retire with that Crow lady. lol. I wonder how their sex life is, my brother in law races bikes and he is always telling me about low sprem count, rashes, hemoroids and just nasty shit from riding bikes. I thought he was bull shiting cause lord knows the last time I rode a bike I was like 10 and sprem count was not a factor. lol. But then another friend who races told me the same thing. that whole area must be like Japan after WWII. Hum could be a new Niche site. Scabbybikeballs.com lol.
