...Zilla
Here's an interesting little bit of corporate bullying
http://www.davezilla.com/index.php?p=1292&c=1 "It has come to our attention that you have incorporated the “ZILLA” portion of our client’s GODZILLA marks in the name of your “DAVEZILLA.COM” domain name, and that you have included a “reptile-like” character as well as a “monster-like” character, which you refer to as “GODZILLA”, on your website accesible through “DAVEZILLA.COM.” Please be advised that your use of the GODZILLA mark constitutes a trademark infringement and confuses consumers and the public into believing that your “GODZILLA” character originates from Toho, which it does not. Moreover, your use of the “ZILLA” formative along with imagery associated with GODZILLA is likely to cause the users of your site to believe that the “DAVEZILLA.COM” website is either associated with, authorized by, or sponsored by our client, and demonstrates an attempt by you to trade on the goodwill built up by our client. As such, we request that you remove the objectionable imagery and reference to GODZILLA from your website to eliminate any likelihood of confusion and posibility of an inaccurate affiliation with Toho and GODZILLA." I wonder if they went after Mozilla, or Thumbzilla, or Go!Zilla There's a site that sells bowling gear called Bowlzilla There's DVDs called Wad-Zilla There's a vibrator called the Clit Zilla A large budgie site called BudgieZilla... http://www.davezilla.com/index.php?cat=25 Further info... apparently a product called Hubzilla changed it's name. The comments section leads to a discussion on whether the Bible is still copyright: Dave, short for David: “The second king of Judah and Israel. According to the Bible, he slew the Philistine giant Goliath and succeeded Saul as king. He is the reputed author of many of the Psalms.” Zilla: “A low, thorny, suffrutescent, crucifeous plant found in the deserts of Egypt. Its leaves are boiled in water, and eaten, by the Arabs.” Good point, Rotwang. Iím sure King Davidís trademark has expired by now. What is it up to now? 75 years after death? If the atheists are right and God is dead, the copyright’s expired. If the true believers are right and he still exists, it will never expire. The beauty of the New Testament is that Jesus died for our copy rights. OK... I've got a little off topic. Maybe this thread belongs in chitchat now. I guess my real point is the issue of messing with trademarks, and how far is too far.
