I got scrubbed today
Went to Brands Mart to order my new appliances and went to pay for them with a personal check. It got declined by the check checking service. So I then gave them my debit card which also was declined by the same service that declined my personal check. Finally I did get them to take a credit card of mine.
I was giving a number to call to find out why they didn't like my check or debit card but when I called them I was put on hold forever and it isn't like I'll ever be going to Brands Mart, or any other place, to buy 5K worth of stuff ever again. Kind of ironic that when I buy something that is going to get delivered to my home where I also have to show ID and all that kind of stuff it gets declined yet the Russian Embassy was allowed to order four times this amount on one of my stolen CC numbers a bit over a year ago and I didn't find out until I got the bill. |

Full credit giving back to my CC. I've actually had this happen to me about seven or eight times now. All different cards and banks and they never actually had the physical card, just the number. None of these has ever cost me anything other then some aggravation.
With the Russian Embassy it was books and electronics from what I remember. It was the most dollar amount of all of them. Just this year I got a call from one of my CC asking me if I had bought twelve hundred dollars worth of sporting goods in upstate New York at two different stores in person. I have not been to upstate New York in over twenty years and my card was still in my wallet so I'm not sure what they were using. Kind of too late for them asking me if I had bought this stuff after it was already bought. Ironically I've never had any problems with any of the cards that I use on the internet. |

Restaurant workers and other service and store types, where you hand them the credit card and they take it out of sight and give it back to you in a few minutes, have a gizmo you can buy off the internet that they swipe the card thru, and it stores the data on the mag strip. Then they transfer the data to a new card blank, and bango, they have a copy of your card to sell.
It used to be that the equipment to do this cost only a couple hundred dollars. I don't know if it's still so easy to buy. |

I had some scammers in LA get a hold of my debit card number and EMPTY my bank account in less than 3 hours. Thankfully my bank caught it and called me and I had to go in and fill out a form and had my money back in the account in 24 hours. My card never left my possession.
