Whats a good amount of link backs to start getting better PR?

Just wondering, what would be a good amount of link backs to aim for, to build a page with decent PR ?

I understand the better ranked pages linking back means alot along with being relevent to your own page, what i am wondering is am i giong to need like 2.5 million link backs like sex.com appears to have?

What do would most sites have? such as the hun, shemp, or other bigger sites?

I just want to get an idea of what i should be aiming for!

Any info about this would be much appreciated!

john0pr0n0,

There is no magic number... get as many as you can.. but make sure they are "relevant" and "appropriate"

If you continue to gain incoming links your Google page rank will increase over time.

It doesn't work exactly that way.

Dave's talking more about relevancy and position than pure pr.

However, in theory, if you got one link from a pr10 page, and your page was designed right, you would have about an 90% chance of ending up with a pr9.

There's no legitimate way to get such a link, but in theory that would be the result.

In general, with most linking patterns, you will end up with 1 point of pr less than the highest pr page linking to your page.

As far as "authority" and serp positions go, that depends a lot on the competitiveness of the keywords you are targeting.

If you are targeting "free porn" you will want to get 10,000 plus links in to start. If you are targeting "obscure penile modifications" a couple dozen should get the job done.

I have analyzed that last week a little bit and I can tell you that sites with 150 backlinks list as high as sites with 1500 backlinks for the same keywords.

It matters a lot how much weight the site has that links to you and how many other quality sites link to the site that links to you etc.

I was going to say - I rank higher for the keyword "sex" than sex.com does (at least in the international Google pages- they dont list porn sites for that keyword in the english language Google) and I guarantee that I dont have the number of links that they do - but I have quality relavent links - which they dont have
