We have lived here since June and had no issues with anything until a month ago when new neighbors moved in. (our back porches face each other) They let their cats outside with out leashes and since the weather has turned cool, when we have our windows open their cats are now harassing our cats constantly, they are also jumping on our window sills begging for attention from us. Nothing like having someone else’s cat’s meowing at you for attention from the window.

So I called animal control and asked what can be done, they said they can send a letter telling them there has been a report and that Florida has leash laws that carry up to a $400 fine.

I was also speaking with another neighbor and told me she also has spoken to the people in question, for the same thing and they told her it would be taken care of.

Well, last week as I am in my office, I have my office window open next to me and my oldest cat is on my desk sleeping next to the window when I hear something hit the house/window and see a blur from the corner of my eye, I look out the window and I see their cat hissing at me. Fucking thing attacked my cat through the window screen.

I go out to my porch and they are outside smoking so I asked “nicely” to do something about it, they say it won’t happen again they will keep them inside. 2 days later it happens again, giving them the benefit of the doubt I give them more time, until today I see they have once more left their doors open so the cats can come and go. So Fuck them I call Animal Control to make another complaint.

After taking all my information, she then tells me I am not on record, I asked her why I would be, she said I have to register my cats, and get shots for them all and basically started grilling me over the phone and threatening me with fines. Talk about a rude awaking.

So I have spent the last 2 hours calling local vets and my vet back “home” for some paper work for our own protection. I have had to pay $27 to the county over the phone for tags, and now will have to pay $50 per cat to get shots.

We left Indiana on “bad terms” in regards to some neighbors, so I really getting pissed off about this. Seems like every time I try and do the “polite” thing when dealing with neighbors too fucking stupid to take care of their own shit it ends up costing me money.

Since when do you have to register your cats?

Mine are all up-to-date on their shots & everything, but we've never had to do anything else as far as the town is concerned.

The dog on the other hand, well, we paid the fine & registered him once they came to the door asking if we had any dogs & he stood there barking at him

FL law I am told, all dogs, cats need to be registered, WTF do I know I just moved here, but this AC dispatcher gave me the 3rd degree over it, I had "27 days" since I moved here and I could be heavily fined bluh bluh bluh.....

They sent the AC Officer over here and he looked like a member of the SWAT team lol. Black boots and combat gear, so me thinks they take animal control pretty serious down here.

This entire BS drama because people are fucking lazy....

drive a few counties over, to their shelter, and say you're moving to an apartment that doesn't allow pets.

Spray bottles work good for cats. When they are in your window or whatever squirt them with water from a spray bottle. After awhile they will run just from the sound of it. And should eventually stop doing it altogether.

I am pretty sure you all are missing the point.

I should not have to do any thing; the owners are the ones who need to do something. As for antifreeze or a cage, I would except I am not sure I can get the woman to drink it or find a cage big enough for her to walk into.

The cats are only doing what is natural to them; it's the owners who are at fault.

Torn I feuded with a neighbor and his dog shitting in my yard for over a year (the guy had the balls to tell me to put up a fence to keep his dog out).
It was a piece of shit dog just like the owner looking back on it, The problems with my conscience for offing the dog would have been nothing compared to the frustration I went through trying to make a neighbor understand it's his pet and his responsibility.

We went through pure hell for the last 3 years in Indiana with dogs, the worse of them was owned by a city cop who got away with whatever since he of course was pals with the county law enforcement.

Hours of video, pictures, constant calls to Animal Control by us and another neighbor got us nothing but stress and ignored.

It was the deciding factor on why we left Indiana, and why we thought it was best to take the HUGE loss we took on our house, just to get out of there. So I do know a few things on living next to shitty neighbors.

Any animal can be trained, it's always the owner who is at fault on shit like this, if they are not trained from day one they will never know what is right/wrong. Never once have my cats been outside when I did not let them out. A simple verbal “No” stops them in their tracks.

I grew up in the country, if our dogs barked more then 2 times, SOMETHING was wrong and we knew it was time to go look to see what is happening. People now just turn their TV up louder so their own dog won’t ruin their show. THAT IS WHAT IS WRONG.

What pissed me off so bad about this is I HATE being lied to or blown off, these people looked me in the eye and said they will not let them out, and 2 days later they leave the doors blocked open. And then add that to having some bitch threaten me with fines since I made a report pushed me over the line.

My uncle told me once that he had a somewhat loose cannon Viet Nam vet neighbor who warned a third neighbor two times to keep their dog quiet at night so he could enjoy his PTSD nightmares. They never shut the dog up so one night they woke up to a muffled boom and the sound of water rushing into their basement. He had tossed a grenade into their above ground pool.
So half an hour later, the police show up at the vet's house questioning him about the occurence while the angry dog owner stood on the sidewalk screaming explicatives at him. Two hours later, the dog owner, now tucked cozily back in bed, woke under the strangle hold of the vet. The vet never said word. Just stared him in eye until the guy passed out. The next day the dog owner listed his house for sale and had a friend keep his dog until the house sold.

The FL animal cops are all geared up because they are on Animal Cops - Miami on the Animal Planet. They're big shot movie stars now.

Can you run a low voltage wire on the window ledge so it zaps the cat when it tries to sit there? I'm sure it would only take once for it to get the hint and you won't harm the cat.

Or the other alternative is to start feeding the cat and take it in as your own. Except these people sound like real hoosiers <hillbillies><jerks><etc.> and they'll probably just get another cat.

Maybe but...

To me it seems like you are making your own problems.

Its simple. Cat comes to window you show it that it is bad. Cat stops.

Unless you have other issues with your neighbor then you are causing your own headache. IMHO

i am always 3 to 4 months at my summerhome in summertime,the time my kids still are in school i spend daytime at my real home working on the net till they have summerholiday, we have only a little hamster and a midget rabbit, well 2 weeks before i moved to my summerhome, new neighbours at the corner, no problem at all, till the shit head parked on my drive way all the time and their cats where after my rabbit and shitting in my backyard of my home, even i am not there, if it are an other person animals keep them away from my backyard i have small kids who are playing there and because the cats are shitting in my backyard they cant play, i told the new neighbours, hee dont parck on my drive way because its mine and i am here in daytime and i dont wanna ask people if i can parck on my own driveway and keep you cats out of my backyard , my rabbit is going grazy and they shit there , oke said the neighbours! And again when i came home, my rabbit was freaken out like grazy and the cat was in my backyard, now i did it different, i told the neighbours if they didnt watch their cats , i would kill them.they had to laugh, i said yeah laugh, but if they are on my place i can do what ever i want so dont be surprised if they wont comming home ever..........guess what no cats in my backyard, no shit in my backyard and a happy rabbit

Torn, there is no "feline leash law" in FL. Actually the opposite had been settled in the courts awhile ago (thanks to the condo commandos). The only place I've ever seen cats on a leash was in Vegas w/ Sigfried & Roy. And we all know how that worked out. The people working the McDonald's drive-thru are smarter than AC Dispatchers. Registering your cats? A money making ploy for non-porn civilians and their governments. Shots for your cats? Well, it's a good idea.

At least your not out in Cali. When my former neighbor moved there, he got told that if he wanted to let his cat out, it had to be declawed. Why? It might hurt or injure one of the protected mountain lions in his area. "Fats" stays inside.
