All the stats I've seen say that the vast majority of surfers, including myself, keep their screen at 800x600. It ought to be the standard for design, but so many numb nuts out there want to push it wider just because their screen can view 7000x6000. Many sites designed larger than 800x600 are illegible because the designers didn't bother to use larger fonts. And why didn't they use larger fonts? Becasue the larger fonts look idiotic to those of us still at 800x600, aka the majority of the human population.
Also, wider screens mean wider graphics and that means more bandwidth.

I can remember someone telling me that my site was to wide back when 640x480 was the most common res
i think that alot of surfers dont no how to change the res from a factory setting of 800x600 |
