Quick domain propagation (question)

Okay, bought a domain a few hours ago (3 or so), changed nameservers, added it to a new server, setup 2 mysql databases. Usually I would expect propagation to take 24 to 48 hours.

The domain, however, is accessible.

My question is this. Can I expect the domain to be inaccessible for periods of time before it is 100% stable?

And also, should I wait before installing any scripts? I wanted to get vbulletin installed before I went to bed, but dont want to do so if --- for some reason --- the installation might become corrupted.

Any ideas?

I think you'll be fine installing or uploading FTP all you want.. But for full propogation throughout the world, it'll probably be more like your expectation of 24 to 48 hours.
Some ISP's even keep caches longer than that, but 24 to 48 is probably good to go from all over the globe.

I'm almost certain all the main 12 (?) internet name servers update close to real time now.. the only "propogation" you need to worry about is ISPs with old cache data.. but I suspect with the instant DNS updates now, most ISPs will be refeshing their cached data faster than we have been used to as well..

If its a new domain, thats not been online, I am fairly certain there is no "propogation" time to worry about anymore... I bet a google search for "dns propogation" would turn up LOTS of results too.. seen this question asked many times in last few months.

Didn't know that either, good info Opti. What concerned me was, in my eagerness to install vb, I might get a corrupted script. Think I'll get a cup of tea and then get my hands dirty

I talked vaguely as last person I asked that I am sure Knew the right answer told me 5 minute intervals... but I've moved or setup at least 30 domains in last couple of months.. and It must be almost instant or I have the worlds best timing to do it at the emd of a 5 minute cycle almost every time..

I've heard others say that propagation periods are much, much faster these days too. Gots to love that technology thingy. Next thing you know they'll have free porn online.
