SirMoby - While I agree with your comments on British beer (one of the reasons I would never live in America is our difference in what we call "beer") you are obviously no foodie. Go pick up the latest issue of the magazine "Gourmet", which is an American magazine dedicated to food. The March issue is dedicated to the city that the publishers feel is the city with "the best restaurants on the planet". That city is London, England.

Wow. I'm shocked but then again I thought Hong Kong was a bad place for food until I learned how to choose restaurants. I spent most of my time in Theale (outside Reading), Nottingham and Leeds and little time in London itself.

Maybe they do have some great restaurants that they’ve imported from other countries but there’re also top recipes like mushy peas to deal with

The British beer is the best in world but I'll never admit that while in Germany or Belgium.

Hell man, how old are you, "mushy peas" went out of fashion decades ago. Only grandparents (and great grandparents) still eat them (and possibly a few Northerners, but they always were behind the times, and most decidedly uncivilised).

Well, I'm a Northerner from Lancashire and although I might admit to being behind the times, I don't think I'm uncivilised.

You can still get mushy peas in Lancashire from a decent chippy (assuming you can find one that isn't Chinese that is). You can still get Black Pudding as well, which is a traditional health food where I come from

I think your second paragraph contradicts your first one.

My last post referred to your one that began "Well, I'm a Northerner from Lancashire and although I might admit to being behind the times, I don't think I'm uncivilised.", your beer one appeared while I was typing my reply. However "in the South it's warm and comes with no head. I can't drink it." puts you firmly on the uncivilised list.

But I will allow that one of the two good things coming out of the North is Newcastle Brown Ale.

(The other good thing coming out of the North is the Southbound carriage of the M1 )

I agree about Newcie Brown - but that's the North East, not the North

So the other good thing coming out of the 'North' should really be the A1 and not the M1 - the M1 stops of course at Leeds.

Which nicely lets me conclude with the best thing coming out of Yorkshire is the westbound carriageway of the M62

RE: "So the other good thing coming out of the 'North' should really be the A1" - Well you said it, not me. But it is nice to see a Northerner agreeing with the Southern view of the North.

Only if you're talking about beer in the North of England - in the South it's warm and comes with no head. I can't drink it.

Aw, Dad, you've done a lot of great things, but you're a very old man, and old people are useless
