Yes it is. If you don't "understand" the niche than there is a good chance you are accidentally misrepresenting the site and what your advert is inferring the surfer will get is not what the free tour is inferring they get, so it does not convert.

RE: "not promoting a niche because it doesn't "turn you on" is ridiculous IMO" That is not what I mean. I am saying you will earn less money promoting a niche that is not your thing, but that is no reason not to promote it (unless it takes time away from things that earn you more money). For example, with the current state of the $ I make less money selling my non-adult services to Americans than I do selling them to Europeans, but I still sell to America.
