Just moved here myself a few months ago...it's a great place to live if you dont' mind a lil heat in the summer. And some kinda windy days at times...lol.

Hi juggernaut

I've often wondered the same thing but like MrYum says, many webmasters and sponsors are based out of there and I'm sure many more will be heading down in the future.

Pass by this thread and say hi if you haven't already!

You'll be glad you did.

I thought so too, I see a majority of adult webmasters located in countries other than the US... For obvious reasons.

Is there any other reason to move there then hot girls, cheap housing, and great weather? I have some family down there and for the life of me to be honest lived there for a year in Boca. HAted it. To many Rich assholes. And it just seemed to be NYC's retirement home. But whats the advantage to moving there compaired to anyplace else from a business stand point?

There are many states that are tax advantaged and have desirable traits.

I think there are a few states that have no State Income tax: New Hampshire (no sales tax either), Delaware (No sales tax?), Nevada, Florida, parts of Texas. I moved from Maryland to Florida to avoid the 7.5% state tax I was paying.

Then there are other reasons to move to different states. My preferences were California or Florida. In Florida, you don't need to wear a wetsuit if you go in the water. California's water is a bit chilly until you get waaay south and I would have picked Huntington Beach/Long Beach.

If you have a Corporate Helicopter, you would have your corporation in New Jersey (I think), corporate aircraft like to be registered in Arizona for the tax benefits.

If I was going to do it over again, I'd move 65 miles east to the Bahamas and enjoy my 3% tax. 1.5% if your income is passive and you've retired.

There are a lot of New Yorkers, that is for sure. And many are blue-collar newly-rich people. People that bought a brownstone for $15k 30 years ago, worked 30 years for the same factory, sold their brownstone for $800k to a yuppie and retired to Florida, bought their Caddy and their gold necklace, but, maintained their frugal ways. The running joke around here is:

How do you ask a New Yorker for the time?
Pardon me, do you have the time or should I go fuck myself?

Another reason I moved here is that I was supposed to move to Barbados for a company, long story short, that fell through for a number of reasons and we decided to try and hire people. I lived right outside DC and you had other companies competing and pricing things rediculously to the point where employees were $60k versus $40k for equivalent people in Florida. The thought was, move to Florida, make it a desirable area, use that to attract the talent rather than the additional cash and get 3 employees for the price of two. That theory was sound, however, 13 days after moving, that guy wigged out and pretty much kicked two of us in the teeth.

Personally, I like it here a lot. Makes that trip in '86 during Spring Break where I told my then-girlfriend, I'm going to live in Florida seem almost prophetic. The true irony is that in '89, I almost bought a company that is 6 miles from where I currently live (and I moved here 10 years after that deal fell through).

There is a certain mystery behind whether you should do things that are the most tax advantaged, or just because you like an area. I never much liked the cold weather, my wife hated it more. That was another reason. The other thing that we got away with was that our house is 3x larger than the one we had in Maryland -- and with the savings in state income tax, this one costs us slightly less. That's a pretty strong statement.

And really, they're only rich assholes while you're not rich. haha

Fucking Florida, it's full of perverts.

Why wouldn't you want to live here, it's beautiful and it's too hot to wear too many bits of clothing, I'm naked right now with all the windows open.

I love living here… most of the time.

I moved a girl friend to Tallahassee from San Francisco, and I used to go and stay with her for a few months in the year. I guess Tallahassee is not typical of FLA though.

I can surly understand the tax advantages as here in the armpit of america (NJ) there more shaddy politics then i care to think about. Like most people here we just give up as long as we are making an ok wage. Thank god my government job pays me well. Or Id still be living with mom, like my 38 year old bro. But thats another story. As far as the rich people were concerned. it wasnt that they were assholes so much as i think they never had touch with the real world or they just forgot about it. I remember two things that got me really pissed. 1 I was driving my then 83 toy truck and pulled up along side a blue hair ina 6 figure rolls convertable and she looked over at me. if looks could kill well then me an my truck would have blown up. the 2nd was when i changing the oil, i was in a college campus at the time full of rich kids. (no im not rich, just went there cause it was the only place i could get in) anyway the prince of Haiti walked up to me and asked if I was the owners mecanic and if I would mind doing his bmw next. LOL i said sure give me $200 and ill change the oil on a car where I have no clue were the filter is. Well he paid and it took me 2 hours cause the dam engine compartment was tight as hell. anyway hoppfully with some hard work over the next few years I can sell the condo and move down or at least close by. or at least more north tampa or so. well see.

Tallahassee is part of Florida?

Yeah the Southeast coast (Boca, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Miami) is very different then the rest of Florida.

Yep, all the reasons stated above

I've always preferred a warmer climate...Florida certainly has that...lol.

No state tax...always a good thing...

And I was able to sell a townhouse in California for twice what I paid for a house with a pool...on over half an acre in Florida. Oh, and I'm in the gulf coast area...about 90 miles south of Tampa. The weather is pretty much perfect

Actually, just got out of the pool...beautiful day today...again

MrYum, are you around North Port/Sarasota? I've heard that is a really nice area. When we moved down, I considered Punta Gorda only due to the fact that you could get a house on a navigable canal that led to the ocean with pool, etc. for $250k -- which was an incredible price. No real airport nearby though.

I've looked at hotels on Sanabel/Captiva Island, but, not many are for sale right now.

Wow, you Floridians are living the life. Here I am stuck in this shit hole called Toronto and day dreaming of Arizona because its the furthest thing to cold but from what I've read now, it sounds like Sarasota is the place to be.

Gonna have to research it though.

Sarasota is on the west side of Florida. The west side is much more laid back then the Southeast side of the state.

I've seen a lot of folks in my area moving either further north or over to the west side to get away from the fast pace and congestion here. Personally I love it here.

Florida is where the sexy people live. It's just crawling with swingers. Fucking perverts. I have a rule: the better and more stable the climate, the more attractive the populus will be.

If it wasn't for the fact my oldest child is the offspring of someone other than my wife, we'd move to Florida. Of course, the older my daughter gets, I may just want her to go live with her mother. That'll teach her.

Yep, actually...I'm in North Port Great little city...all the conveniences are close by, but my house backs up to a small canal...with green belt on the other side. Lots of privacy...even got my gf going topless and wearing a thong bikini...YUM! LOL!

The real estate agent I worked with has an awesome house in Punta Gorda...on a big canal. Took a lot of damage in the storms last season, but he's rebuilding...

Got airports in Tampa, Ft Myers...and one in Sarasota. None of em are huge, but can still get flights to where ya need to go

Compared to the SF bay area...prices here were a bargain. That said, the area is appreciating at about 3%/month....gotta love that!

Cleo is right...it's very laid back over here. Can honestly say that I have yet to run across someone who's rude or nasty. Folks are very friendly and helpful...food prices are good...yep, I'm a reborn Floridian

Come on down cd34...you'd love it! Oh, and you can come to UW...soon as ya ditch the kid! lol

Oh man dont go to AZ spent some time there with work an all I could think of was what in the world ever got into someones mind to ride a horse out into the middle of no place and just decide it was a good spot for a town/city. Nothing there but catus and such little rain that it gets sucked up the moment it hits the ground. spend the extra bucks to hit a coastline. I grew up on the jersey shore (not that its great) but it always makes me wonder how people can live in land locked states/countries. I need some ocean, just something about it for me.

I'd have to come 'up' I live further south than you. And while I live in the 'bustling' Southeast Florida, it is too slow for me.

It takes a lot for me to get used to the slow pace down here. I much preferred the business climate in Washington, DC. Contractors did things when they said they would. Down here, a local landscaper has 'We show up' on the side of his truck. In DC, if you had an appointment scheduled, they showed up promptly... every time.

I would go nuts on the West Coast of Florida. The slower pace is one of the few detractors from living in Florida for me.

I feel the same way, love living near the ocean. I do miss being able to spend a day hiking in the country. We have swamps and nasty sticky biting things here plus it is just flat and boring. California was nice since it had hills and stuff but as cd34 said you can't actually go in the water for most of the state plus it is expensive and has a state tax.

You are living on the border of bum fuck egypt up there. Come on down to Fort Lauderdale, it's feeling more and more like Los Angeles each year which is both a blessing and a curse. I dated a guy who lived up in Boca and I thought that I would go insane with boredom when I would stay with him. West Broward is another suburban hell. Why would you move down here and then buy a house in drained swamp land?

Downtown Ft. Laud. Finally has night life in the streets. It's nice just to be able to spend the evening walking around in the old town, River walk, Los Olas areas. Now if only we would get some decent theater and culture. I do really miss the lack of culture down here.

Fort Laud beach, I live just on the west side of the intercostal next to the beach, is still kind lame but improving.

Miami and South Beach is more city like but also like visiting another country. It is nice to go to South Beach every now and then.

Hollywood is right there in the middle and probably a good buy still.

Well DUH! Sorry cd34...missed that you already live in the sunshine state...oops

But, it just goes to show...the whole different strokes thing...lol. I've had the busy life...something to do ALL the freakin time. These days...I really like lazing around by the pool. Or, firing up the bike and going for a ride on roads that aren't so congested like California. Or, watching my gf in her string bikini...that's always fun! lol

Of course, with slingin porn for a living...doesn't leave a hell of a lot of time for those things...but I keep hoping!

Spousal Unit had a lifelong friend (that she rarely talks to anymore) that lived in the area. I'm happy enough here that until I can afford the house I really want, I'm not moving again. And, when I do move, we're leaving the furniture and starting over.

Another close friend said, if you're going to buy real estate, and you want more than a zero lot line, Palm Beach County. Although, recently we have been seeing more Browardization up here. With my job, a city could have every desirable thing in the world and I wouldn't have time to enjoy it anyhow. That will change soon..... I hope.

I don't really like the house I'm in. It has really low ceilings, was basically just a small two bedroom two bath winter home that had another large bedroom and small bath added to it with a porch so now it is a strangely laid out three three. I did just put a new roof on it and redid the inside so now its in great shape but it is still a landlocked low ceiling badly laid out house.

Florida has great homestead laws so as long as I live in it I'm getting huge tax breaks that I would loose if I sold or rented it so I don't see me moving ever unless I became extremely wealthy and could get a house in this area on the water.

Its all settled: West Side it IS!!

In all seriousness though, everyone makes a strong case for and against the westside, the offside, the eastside, the northside, the inside, the southside, and the backside.
And so it all comes down to personal preference: and that's as individual as each and everyone of us. For those of you in the know, your living proof and that my friends, is the UPSIDE.

FLA ALL THE WAY!
