Making a clean TGP... any sense in it?

I have never traded traffic... yet. However, all things must change and I am currently working on a text only TGP+MGP(FHGs plus regular submissions).
My question to all those who run TGP sites...
1. Does it make more sense to keep the site clean and have no-force trades.
2. Does it make more sense to have a small skim.

In any case, I won't push the skim over 1-2% and only when the dude has already clicked 4-5 galleries.

It's pretty tough these days to build enough traffic to a TGP without skim to trades (1%-2% isn't going to do much), unless you have a bunch of traffic you can direct there from some other sites you already have. It's a catch 22. You need traffic to attract and keep good submitters, and you need a fair quantity of regular submitters to keep your content fresh and build that bookmark return traffic. Hardlink trades and good SEO will help build SE traffic too, but it's a slow process.

Hey Toby!

Let me put another idea that came into my head...
Lets say I keep my main TGP completely skim free with direct to gallery urls. Then using the niche content from the main database, I build 5-6 niche specific TGPs (with either thumbs or text) and use these with high skim. (Btw,what is an effective skim percentage?)

Of course I already do have some excellent traffic (mostly bookmarkers, guys who have already brought from me in my mailing list, and SE apart from traffic from TGP posts etc.) Plus I also would put the recips on my posts, etc. to give it a decent push.

If you can use the same database, then you really don't have much additional overhead to run those niche TGP's once they are built. It will allow you to trade with other similar niche sites, and you can hard link to your own sites and share the traffic. More work initially, but it gives more options for building traffic. Moderate skim is best, gives you enough traffic to keep your trades going, without pissing off too many surfers.

I consider moderate to be no more than 30% skim to trades, and as your hardlink trades, bookmark and SE traffic builds you can ween that skim down with the goal of eventually eliminating it completely.

no offence but the term is an exact match for the domain
so I would say ....no never
putting in a search term that is an exact match for the domain doesnt really count

these are the search terms from a small clean tgp i have
i had to change a lot of the words to keyword
and the word replaced wasnt the same word over and over
in other words the word keyword represnts 30 or more different words

I feel this is a huge reward for running a clean site

also your babes n boots tgp is really nice I have seen it before a few times and always thought it was quaite an accomplishment

I know its hard finding all those gallerys when working in a small niche

Yes, those search phrases were ringers, but if I can get ranked with those there's no reason that I can't also get ranked for other nich relevant terms.

Babes In Boots has only been online since October, and Well Heeled Women since January. Had I been aiming at larger niches or a general categorized TGP, and I had a number of other sites to send some seed traffic from I'd have probably gone non-skim but I felt it would have taken too long to build traffic to a level to attract submitters since I only had one other site at that time getting decent traffic. I'll eventually ween the skim to zero and end up in the same place, although admittedly it will likely take longer to get there this way.

Thanks for the kind words re: Babes In Boots. I'm finding out that high heel boot content is more seasonal that I anticipated, so it's going to be an interesting summer keeping the boot galleries fresh.

Ronald, the whole idea about this TGP is to get new people in my network. And hopefully get them interested in my other sites. Hence the whole traffic trade thing... Besides, I have never traded traffic in my life, so it should be a nice learning experience!

Tommy, I had no idea about that... maybe something to do with the redirects that most scripts use?

Anyway, the plan as of now is a completely TGP with nice descriptions and category archive pages. These archive pages will be mirrored (well, actually use a different template so the content is different than the category pages) on niche domains where I'll test out some trades and skim.

So far, I've chosen apscript's aptgpIII (for it's ability to create niche only TGPs from the same database). I am still looking out for a trade script. Then the hunt starts for quality submitters who are willing to submit to a 2-3k a day tgp lol.

btw Tommy, is that a daily keyword list or for the month so far? I have no idea how a new tgp will perform on SEs... i know i can get it to PR4 (but that doesn't count for much these days) in one update...

Another question... should I use reciprocal linking? or should I not?

umm I think those cgi tags on the gallerys really hurt you
does the spiders follow them ... who knows

if they dont follow them you have a page with a bunch of dead links

if they do does it consider it all internal site links ??
and what about how the script redirects
maybe since it sees so much cgi it considers them all sponsor links

like I said who knows

the one thing I am pretty sure of is that you dont see those sites in the se's much
what I see (and I look around a lot) ....is more old school stuff

Google removed my site from their index when I skimmed traffic with a script. It took me 5 months after I had removed the cgi tags to be included again.

But I guess it's what you aim for, quantity or quality traffic, both are good in their own way.
