How many keywords?

What's a good amount of keywords to use on my pages? Does it matter?

Depends on what you mean as a page.
If you're talking about pages that are only optimized for search engines (e.g. not galleries, etc.) you could target up to 3 - 5 keywords per page depending on the amount of text you wrote on that certain page.

If you're talking about galleries, I'ld only target one keyword on each gallery because you just don't have enough text for targetting more than one keyword on a gallery.

By the way: You should always do your seo so that a normal visitor would not recognize you doing seo.

I would use as many as you can that fit exactly the content of your site

Totally depends on the type of page - if its the index page to a large site that contains many different keyword pages then you can get away with a lot more - and even more importantly is what you do after you start getting referrals from the SEs. Take a look at your raw logs after you start getting hits and see what people are finding you for - then do some refining to the pages to either strengthen the keyword phrases or add more that you think would fly.

I can show you examples of pages that can target 300 phrases, then I could also show you pages that are script generated to targe one phrase and do it over 300,000 pages for different phrases - it all depends on your needs

Also important:
Don't target keywords nobody is searching for, even at #1 those don't bring you any traffic.
Target good keywords, but not the highly competetive ones...it's easy to find those when you got some experience
