The key to using ICQ successfully...without it driving ya fucking nuts...is to get it configured correctly. I use ICQ and can't remember the last time I got spammed on it. Wish the hell I could say the same for my mail boxes

I've got mine set up to only accept messages from people on my list. AND set to show me in invisible mode at all times. What that means is that ONLY people I so choose can even see that I'm online

I'm using an older version of ICQ so doubt my menus would be the same as whatever version you've got. But, look for privacy settings...get yourself invisible...and only accepting messages from those on your list. It will help a ton

The only problem with setting it up to only accept messages from people on your list is that People who aren't on your list, but ones you actually want to be able to send you messages can't communicate with you. ie. webmasters who see your ICQ # posted somewhere and want to talk business.

Absolutey true...they have to send you an authorization request first...then after you approve...they're on your list

Also, if you set it up this way...you'll probably have to block the spammers who already have hold of you. When I looked at my setup earlier...noticed that I'd blocked about 100 senders because they had my number before I made the changes. And yes, I was getting spammed to death! It was on advice of another webmaster that I changed to the setup I have now...and it works perfectly. Don't think I've seen a spam in over a year on ICQ

That sounds like it would work, then. As long as the authorization requests can still get through, yo
