I need a competent Windows/SQL host.
Yeah- yeah...I know. Unix varients dominate the Adult hosting scene.
However, I'm heavily invested both in education and applications that rely upon .NET and SQL Server 2000. What I've been doing the past few week is checking the DNS of various adult sites I come across and a couple hosts popped up more often that do provide Windows hosting: http://www.california.net/ also known running a company under reliablehosting.com seems to have a good chunk of adult sites. Been around since '97 and seems to know what Adult Hosts need. Sent follow-up e-mail to me even though I'm only interested in their small plan. Reacted pretty quick to my initial inquiries. They don't seem to be Windows people though. That sorta worries me. The plan I'd chose only gets SQL 7 and that isn't something I like at all. Dedicated servers get SQL 2000. Trying to get a max of 50MB SQL 2000 database under their smaller plan. We'll see. http://www.cwie.net a.k.a CaveCreek Around since '98 and responded to my inquiries at like 4AM on a Saturday morning within 10 minutes. Run Win2K and SQL 2000. I liked the in depth answers on my questions to technical support especially since I wasnt even a customer! The above are my two best choices based on the info I have at this time. Some secondary host possibilities: http://services.superx.net/ http://flashhost.com/ http://www.prohosters.com/index.html I know this site is on national-net and they are very well regarded, but appear *nix based only. Sent an e-mail to their sales people anyway to check. Here's what I'm currently used to for $50/mo on my non adult sites: http://www.crystaltech.com/plan4.htm Seems...I am very spoiled. They really know Windows 2003 Server and SQL 2000 inside and out. http://www.crystaltech.com/infrastructure.htm Anyone like this in the Adult Hosting industry? I can deal with basic Win2K hosting but the MS SQL bit worries me with these guys. As a fallback I can easily pop in 50MB DB's onto my non adult plans and don't think the DBA's check inside the containers of many 100's of databases. In the future I'd get a dedicated 2003 server and seperate dedicated SQL 200 Server with an SQL host. So...any suggestions besides all the arguments to dump my .NET /SQL platform? Thanks...all. I learned enough to better shape my plan for the site and now I am ready to get a host so I can start to work on it. Any options of hosts for me who have been around a while? Sorry for the length but it's something that is super important as we all know. Last edited by Alphawolf; 2003-11-10 at 02:01 AM.. |

I'll refrain from my Windows comments, don't use it for a desktop or for hosting.
Anyway M3 Server does have Windows plans. Go to m3server.com or use the drop down menu in my sig which also has my affiliate code in the link. ![]() They host all of my stuff and they are good guys. |

Why MS?
I look after one site on IIS/5.0 and from the developers point of view it's easy to set up a dbase etc...... but security and performance have been below average.

MS Windows & MS SQL
Hello Alphawolf,
Although Windows would never be my first choice 20% of our servers in house are running Windows and from there we have various configurations that access MS SQL databases. Candid Hosting.com would like the opportunity to earn your Windows based hosting. Contact me and I will be happy to discuss various options and if necessary I can bring a Windows Administrator into the conversation to assist with the details. I will also be happy to mention a few of the Window sites currently hosted here. Thanks in advance, |
