A man got the death penalty for killing his wife -- bashing her 70 times with a claw hammer -- because she annoyed him while he tried to watch a sports show.

Christopher Offord's wife wanted to cuddle after sex. But he wanted to watch ESPN's Sports Center to see clips of a Mike Tyson boxing match.

When she kept insisting he come back to bed, he complied -- bringing along a steak knife and a hammer. He struck her 70 times with the claw end, until she was dead.

Offord got the death penalty for his crime this week -- a sentence with which his wife's family, Offord himself and even his own mother agreed.

''My son is evil. He deserves to die,'' Offord's mother told his lawyer.
