Okay so I have a PR 8 page...

PR may be worth zilch when it comes to SERP... but I never expected a PR 8 domain... come what may. Certainly since I haven't done anything to make it PR8 - far as I can remember, I pulled it down a couple of months earlier... thinking I'll do something with it. How it got to PR 8 is anyone's guess... but I would love to hear your views.

domain: www.lovetimes.net

Post away!

PS: I don't think the PR would/should last, but if someone wants to buy the domain - it's all yours

UPDATE...

for some reason google seems to think lovetimes.net is same as gs.com.... the latter is an investment bank! Kudos to google!

That's very interesting.

I've been collecting some information that suggests that google might (I stress _might_) be having some kind of database glitch.

Let me ask you a few questions...

Did you, or could anyone, have possibly put up a redirect on this domain in the past months?

Or does this seem to have happened entirely spontaneously?

Hey Bill!

I recently changed my servers out of US to Europe. Since then PR of a lot of my pages has shown idiotic behaviour. PR 4 pages down to PR 3... PR 5 down to PR4... and in some cases a jump of a couple of PRs... but since I don't bother worrying about PR anymore... I didn't pay any attention.

I checked this domain after a couple of months (last time around, it was a PR4 domain with some content). During the server transfer, I didn't bother putting this site back up since I hadn't updated it for over a year and it received 50-60 visitors per day... hardly worth it. I did plan to restart the site in November... so I checked it. And lo behold!

In short... I didn't redirect. And no one has any access to this site to redirect it. Maybe the new nameservers? Probably gs.com had these servers before me? I don't know.

Yup - it really does think you are GS, at least for the moment.

There has been a couple of instances of this that we know, and I don't think that the PR would likely actually travel through (although stranger things have happened) if you built something on it.

Congrats on a PR8. Don't spend it all in one place.

Oh, are you seeing extra visitors to the domain (in numbers that would match the PR?)

Alex

Hey Alex!
There is no site on the domain so I pity the visitors who are coming to the site! I will probably put something up by next week... but no - there is no spurt of visitors that I noticed.
On spending the PR... lol, I don't have a clue on what to do! If google really thinks I am gs.Com... I should probably write to them and correct this issue! Besides which.. I have no idea on how to develop a PR 8 site!
If you guys have suggestions... I would love to hear them!

It doesn't really have any value. From what I've seen, a domain in that condition does _not_ pass on the PR, so it's no use to develop it.

There was a time when some people tried to sell text links off domains with fake pr like that (created using the redirect trick), but that would be fraud, because it won't pass on the pr.

It's just a curiousity.

The big question is still - how did it happen? And I'm still not sure. Your server change kind of clouds the issue.

Yeah, it is quite crazy. But I do have 10 other sites on this server now... pity google doesn't think they are all worthy of PR 8! lol But then again, all the rest of the sites are working - this was the only dormant domain.

just as it's been said....having a PR of 8 is great to see you get that, however, the sad news is, is that PR is really worthless. It started off as a gimmick for google to woo others from yahoo over to google and thats pretty much all it is...a gimmick. PR really does't do anything for search engine rankings...my friend and I proved this by looking into the whole thing. Remember...its strictly a "Google" only thing. My best advice is....work the keywords, tags, and develop good pages and you will see better value in that

well that sounds official. |clown|

PR is a tool to measure link popularity. Link Popularity is a large factor in determining your rank in the serps.

Are there other factors? yes

Does PR factor in link relevancy? no

Is link relevancy important? yes

Is PR completely useless on all fronts? You'd be a fool to think so.

People are getting carried away these days with their claims on how outdated and useless PR is. I completely agree that PR is over rated and shouldnt be the sole factor in determining a site's worth. But using PR in conjuction with other tools (checking backlinks, # of outgoing links, number of indexed pages on domain, number of y! directory listings, number of dmoz directory listings, alexa traffic rank, etc) all combined can be very effective tools in determining whether a site would be a favorable backlink.

But as for the subject at hand, 9/10 if google thinks ure domain is something else, that PR isnt worth anything.
