Many people use it for SEO/PR purposes and/or for feeding another blog.
You can get a number 1-3 position with a thumblogger within 1 or 2 days, of course not on a really popular keyword (that takes a bit longer).
Now imagine doing this 5 times and link all 5 blogs to your main blog. The result is quality SE traffic and nice incoming links (for PR).

Note: i'm twthumb, but couldn't login after the board upgrade at greenguysboard.com, so i have to start over again.

I know I'm a little green and an idiot to boot but that logic seems a bit fuzzy to me. Perhaps if your starting your blog on a new domain...I see some logic behind what your saying but how is there an advantage over starting your blog on an established domain. Either way, your getting indexed by the "bots" on a regular basis.

Even starting on a brand new domain, while "waiting" for the bots to pick you up, your working your trades and working your keywords so that when they do finally show, your hitting your odd keywords but also it's picking up the more common ones as well. So over the long run (say 6 months) are you really ahead of the curve? Especially when on your own domain, your not leaking traffic daily to pay for the subdomain your blog is on.

Getting a new fresh domain on the first page can be a pain in the ass. You only have to do one thing wrong and your domain lands on page 100 or in the google sandbox (google confirmed the existence of this). That said, it is possible to get a fresh domain on the first page quickly but that requires major knowledge of SEO and knowledge of the many google quirks. The difference over the long run, i think not much. But maybe it's me, but i don't want to wait months to get quality traffic.

That's only the domain story, let's look at the linking story. Putting x domains on a single server and interlinking between them isn't a wise thing But interlinking between x domains on your server and x blogs on thumblogger can give PR a big boost. And of course traffic, 1 blog in the search results give less traffic then 10 blogs in the search results, but that's logical.

And there are even more tricks to be a better blogger.
