Jim, I am surprised that he diagnosed it as migraines if you were able to drive yourself to the doctor. Movement, light and sound make me physically sick when I have a migraine. I have to lay in a dark room, with a pillow over my head, and as much sound as possible removed. If I do have to adjust or move to get comfortable, that usually causes me to get sick. Most people that I know who have migraines have very similar symptoms to varying degrees.

Imitrex is good if you catch it as a migraine is starting, and it will work over the course of a day or so if you take it after the full blown migraine has begun, but why does he want you to take it for a week? It's not a daily medication and if it's treating a migraine it shouldn't take a week of imitrex to figure it out. :-(

MikeB, has your wife tried Maxalt (rizatriptan)? I went to it because the imitrex pill didn't cut it anymore and I HATE having to self-inject imitrex although it works. Maxalt melts on your tongue, which was a BIG PLUS to me because most times my migraines are bad enough that I am sick to my stomach too, so taking the imitrex was a waste cause it didnt stay in my stomach long enough to dissolve.

He doesn't want me to take it for a week. He wants me to wait a week to let him know. I told him I get about 3/week. Like I said, he gave me the prescription on just what I told him was going on.

Ahhhhhhh that makes more sense Jim! The reason I said that about not taking it daily is it can cause serious stomach problems if overused, and I think a straight week might mess with ya. Glad to hear it's just as needed!

HOW true! I went through a few months without insurance at one point, and found out that imitrex runs $7.92 EACH without prescription coverage. There is enough for everyone to get a kickback out of those kind of prices!
