You could also try WordPress ( http://wordpress.com ). It is a blog software, but I know a few people who successfully use it as a CMS running portal sites.

There is a bunch of them Drupal, XOOPS, Mambo, my personal choice Joomla, to name a few and I'm sure I've left out a number of them
