I'm very happy with T-Mobile and yes they use a SIM card. I switched to T-Mobile just because they used a SIM card as I like to buy unlocked phones like the Sony Ericsson K750i that I've been using for almost a year now but did have to replace recently after dropping it one too many times.

I find the iPhone that Apple is coming out with really interesting but really am not very thrilled about having to switch to ATT for it plus a few other things about it.

I use the same phone and I really like it. No Cingular for me since I live in Mexico.
