So I guess, at least 500 pounds would be accurate even if my measurement was a little off

Even worse, I have a block about twice the size hanging over an enclosed porch roof We have blocked the area from the dogs and moved our birds for the crash. I would go out and hit it with an sledge hammer but I am afraid of the thing falling on me

Much better to bring that thing down under controlled (and safer) conditions. If you wait much longer, the thaw will bring it down, which won't be pretty if the mailman happens to be under it.
