Support Party

I know everyone has some customer support that they have to do. If you run a link list or TGP you might have surfers contacting you to answer some questions about the content or the sites and you probably handle it well.

Those of us with paysites have a whole different level of support that we need to provide and sometimes it is the easiest answer that the support person doesn't know...

As an example, today I got a support request from one of our members asking me if there is any way to join the clips on one of our sites. I am not sure why he is downloading the clips instead of the full length, I am sure he has his reasons.

He asked for Free Joining Software.

so I LOOKED for free joining software... wasted hours on it and didn't really come up with anything that was worthwhile. Whoa is me.

one of the places I was looking for freeware (& I did actually consider signing up for the affiliate programs of some of these nuggets of software so we could get a commish... and then thought better of it) when I happened upon a suggestion;

use Windows Movie Maker

nah it CANT be that simple. So I tested it........it WORKED. So I fire off a handy little reply and hope that he has movie maker on his machine.

so here is the point of the thread. I have been using windows xp for so long i have neglected to learn about other OS's and if they come bundled with Free Joiner programs especially ones that can handle WMV's|goodidea

so if any one has a different operating system then WinXP maybe you can brag a little about this type of helpful software... also feel free to post links to joining software that is freeware and maybe it will help ease the burden of support reps the world over making life just a little bit easier.

~side note here: feel free to share your handiest support tips and tricks as well as horror stories and funnies (like the guy who invited me out to wine heh heh)

this way everyone benefits and its not like its asking for trade secrets.

My biggest support horror story was while working with CE, "they" lowered payouts retroactively Of course, that was webmaster support.

OMG! I wonder how many webmasters dropped them after that.

MediaJoin is not bad. I occasionally use it to join smaller sponsor free content 10-15 sec. clips to make longer ones for postings.

Sometimes I also use WM-Encoder to try to fit clip length within file sizes also.

Yep, my only part was to make that pig look like a beauty queen. Strangly enough, not many webmasters left.

I was an IT consultant for a few years and while I was on an assignment with Disney TV in London to revamp their IT support, a call came in from one of the execs that his new laptop wasn't working.

To make this as funny as it was for those who were there at the time, needs greater story-telling skills than I possess. I will just cut to the chase, which was that he had taken his laptop home and left it there, thinking that his docking station was a computer in its own right...
