Mac question - php issue

I posted this last Saturday but I am still waiting for a reply, I see Cleo you are sick so get well, I hope someone else can help me with this issue. Another guy who used to own an isp and hosting co told me, I should edit the MIME types on the server but didn't go into details so here's a copy just in case someone can help.

I am using Transmit and won't change it, this has been my ftp proggie for ages.

I am still sore from the cold I've been having now for a while but was up late because my mac and browsers do have an issue with php lately, it did not happen before. The browsers try to download the post.php when I hit Save instead of publishing the word press post, open a lot of windows then have to force them quit.

It happened with other php files too, from the time I've upgraded the browsers, Firefox and Safari and the system to Mac OS 10.4.10. is this a MIME type issue? Wish I knew... my mac crashed several times in the past few days.

Also, I had to repair the permissions, they went mad too.

I don't know anything about Word Press, as I don't use it, but It sounds like something is wrong on your server. What happens when you try to post from a different computer?

Also if your Mac is crashing a few times each day you have something very wrong with it as none of my Macs have crashed in years.

Macs don't crash unless there's something really wrong. Doesn't have to be something really bad, but definitely something wrong to make a Mac crash.

Did you keep repairing all permissions until Disk Utility could no longer find any permissions needing repair? I always make sure to run the (improved) Disk Utility after any application installation or upgrades to apps or system software, and I always run it again (as many times as needed) until Disk Utility can't find anything left to repair.

If everything was working fine before you upgraded your browsers and your system software, then I'd think the problem is more likely to be on your Mac than on the server. Cleo has a good point about trying to access that server from another computer to see if the problem(s) happen with that computer too.

I think you only have the one computer there, but someone you know could try it for you. Also, do you have the same trouble with PHP files on other servers? That would also indicate the problem is local, and not on your server.

No other computer here so cannot try it, but it started when I was updating my browsers. The Canadian friend's pc also crashed so he told me it must be a server issue. My mac is crashing only when I am trying to post... the developer reinstalled their gallery plugin today so now it seems easier just very slow still.
My neighbors don't have computers at home here, they all use the ones at their company (or companies) and are happy to live without them...
Thanks again and get well soon

No lol, it sounds like a server issue and MIME one and others also experience it with the new Firefox on pcs... I am having problems with PHP files on this server only. My mini mac is set to handle PHP files as text files. If Zend encoded, then it is all gibberish but this can be unzended...

I hope I'll be forgiven for posting a link to another forum where a PC guy posted a similar question yesterday, it is the other Simon at IA Cash and the url is http://www.askdamagex.com/showthread.php?t=17479 so I am not alone with it just clueless.

I was repairing permissions several times... when booting from the Tiger installer DVD it fixed them them running the Disk Utility on the HD fixed them again. It was confusing enough.

The "improved" Disk Utility? What do you mean by this? I have the one coming with Tiger.

Regarding the improved Disk Utility, you do have the improved version. I just meant that Apple has made it able to handle things much better in the last few versions. I used to restart in Safe Mode and run fsck from the prompt/command line in Unix. But after System 10.4, it's better to run Disk Utility (per Apple docs).

Also, it doesn't matter how many times you run Disk Utility, what matter is if the "last" time you run it, it finds nothing left to fix. Don't stop running it until that happens.

So, if you think the problem is on your server, and you didn't have the problem before upgrading your personal computer, can you find out what's been changed on the server during this time? If nothing has changed on the server, then it still would seem to point to a local (post-upgrade) on your Mac.

Do you have other browsers besides Safari and Firefox? Have you tried using other browsers if you have some installed?

Sorry Simon,
sis arrived so I am late with the reply... I have classic browsers only, OS9 but I don't speak php so the issue started with the blog. Now that it got reinstalled it looks like can save and publish the posts again, edited a few and did a test post.
The other OSX browser I have is GrandParadiso, a new Mozilla alpha version, I deleted Opera and ICab, not needing them any more.

Thanks and have a great and safe holidays

I didn't know anyone still ran OS9. No wonder you are having all kinds of issues. That was always a problematic os and running it in Classic just makes it even worse.

Why do you still feel a need to sun OS9? The Intel Macs don't even have the ability to run Classic as it needs a PowerPC chip.

Uh that's a long story... I was diagnosed with cancer, had to sell my tgp and asked my friend to buy the cheapest new mac for me and it was the mini mac, back in 2005, without any extras or max memory etc. I was coming in and out and having 3 surgeries and when he bought the mini mac before the first one, he couldn't tell me much about OS X or Unix, he was building bridges and still doesn't speak English.. so you can imagine us back in 2005, all he could do was copying (!) the old HD and OS 9 in a folder after doing a minimal installation of OS X. I'm surprised I can still use it at times. I needed all the emails in Outlook, my old QuarkXPress dtp work backed up.. and when you are alone, cannot speak or make a phone call, you are fucked up like me.
