$4 million in fines for contributory copyright infringement
Seems to be a major push going on in the copyright arena.
Hollywood has been granted another victory in its war against piracy, this time at the expense of two linking sites that the Motion Picture Association of America believes profited from enabling copyright infringement. Both ShowStash.net and Cinematube.net have been hit with multimillion dollar judgments recently for copyright infringement of various movies and TV shows. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...-in-fines.html |

There are three primary reasons as to why you don't hear about lawsuits against tube sites. 1. A few of the big sponsors actually own several of the tube sites. 2. Many of the sponsors, as much as they enjoy posting about their rock star lifestyles, the money, the parties, the cars, the women, etc - don't have a pot to piss in and can't afford to lawyer up. 3. If you sue early on, the damages rewarded will be minimal. If you wait awhile and allow your content to be abused for a sustained period of time, you'll reap greater rewards. (Those are the sponsors that the tubes should truly fear.)
