Have heard a lot about tags on blogs, but never really used it.

Will it give me more se traffic if I add specific tags to each blog post I write on a blog, or what does the tags actually do?

Should I spend a few extra minutes using tags for each blog post or what do you think?

Tags are basically a way to organise posts; think of them as categories

Except you can have multiple tags on a post. Most blog software will generate a page for each tag which lists the posts for that tag, and yes, it will eventually get more SE traffic to the tag pages.
