To be fair I must point out that a "late picks" notification is posted every year on the main page of poolhost --

"11/06/2008
ATTENTION: Forgot to Pick?
If your pool includes Thursday games and you forgot to enter your picks, then CONTACT YOUR POOL ADMIN!"

I've always figured that was good enough notification.

I will change the wording of that part of the post, sure.

If he can do it in spite of the penalties he's incurred for missed games then I'd say he deserves it. I've always levied a penalty to those who miss early game deadlines but who still make the effort to get their picks in, as do other pools as I said. I realize people make mistakes, forget sometimes, slip up, don't read the board updates always, etc etc, so I try and accomodate where possible. Like I said, my main thing is trying to make this pool as fun as can be. Some think it's not fair they should miss out on an entire week because of one early game, while others think that's the way it should be, and still others think there should be no early games in the pool. Hard to please everyone, if not impossible, so I've set the rules for the pool a certain way and have stuck to that, always.

I'm sorry to hear that, I was hoping all concerned could have discussion about this without anyone getting too upset. After 4 years there was bound to be someone somewhere who raises an objection.

Again, up until now the topic hasn't come up. As always I try my best to keep things running smoothly and fairly, and I'm prepared to do what it takes to see that that happens. All along I've just gone with the thinking that if you miss the early game week deadline the onus is on the player to log into the pool and email the admin, the onus is not on myself to notify them to do so.

Would everyone prefer if there were no more early game weeks? I only hesitate in doing that because the idea is to have MORE football, not less

Just for the resord, this topic did come up before - these were posted on Sept 10 2008 in the Week 1 thread by people that forgot about the Thursday game:

But whatever - it's your contest.

Good luck to all the entrants.

Yes, absolutely... and in those weeks anyone who sent their picks to the admin email before Sunday's games commenced got the remainder of their picks entered and was penalized for the games they missed. I'm sorry if I missed some people's posts, it's difficult to stay on top of every post in every thread on every board. However, the option has always been available, and I have posted about it in past years and this year in reply to such posts.

Again I'll ask, would it be better to just eliminate thursday games from the pool all together?

Maybe I should put up a poll about it in the pool.

GG I don't want bad feelings about this. I sense you are more miffed than I first thought you were. In all honesty I posted about it because one person raised the subject and I thought it might be a good idea to talk about it. I'm rather surprised it has raised anyone's hackles this much.

That week I missed the Thursday game because I was so sick midweek and I was not about to ask anyone to add my picks after the deadline, simply because I don't like the idea.

In the past three years, I have been in 6 other pools (away from adult biz), and I also run 2 of my own every year. I respect the deadline and do not allow any late picks, I have made that clear and not a single person in my pools has had any objections. The other 6 that I am in has the same rule. You miss the Thursday game, you miss the week.

The late picks usually don't effect me in any way, because I always suck

I've put it to a poll for everyone in the pool to weigh in on. There should be enough votes in about a week's time to know how most people feel about it. You've been in 6 other polls that do it differently, I've been in 3 or 4 that do it differently. As long as all the picks made are entered before the games actually start and those games missed are forfeit no one should have a problem.

But this isn't an issue worth anyone quitting the pool over. If there was some kind of blatant pick-changing going on after the fact I'd say it would be worth it, definitely, but that's not the case here. As I said I was hoping we could open this up for discussion and talking about it without anyone getting bent out of shape and walking away. I'm disappointed to see that that has happened.
