Suggestions for blog software that uses that lowest resources?

While I haven't done any real testing... it seems to me blogging platforms that output html pages would be the ones adding the least amount of drain on system resources.

Thingamablog is a popular desktop platform that does that.

Moveable Type would be another one

I've played around with both and if simple, fast and basic is what your looking for then I'd go with Thingamablog

I use wordpress. One day my host shut my site down due to strain on their server. I'm on a shared virtual hosting account at hostgator.

Basically I think something attacked my site, like some sort of robo automatic thing that tried to post a thousand comments.

They suggested I install a plugin called wp-supercache. Haven't had a problem since.
