Yes it is very old and part of the spring fertility rites... in other countries the guys throw some fine parfume these days instead if water and get hand painted eggs in all possible colors but the most popular is red.. and the eggs are empty inside of course or just hard boiled eggs, it depends on the tradition. Must have started as a very old, Pagan way of celebrating spring.. oh and the guys get some Easter candies and cookies and beverage at each house and become totally drunk and useless in a few hours.
