Well you know boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like women. You just have to read the manual and press the right button

Looks like they are asking for $20 a year on M3 servers.

http://www.m3server.com/security/ssl.html Hostgator is offering it for free if you have a business account or $40 a year for others. I can't do it because I am still on a shared server. I don't get the money or traffic to jump to a dedicated server. |

I can see why this would be good for Google: When checking my emails on web email sites I often get a "site not running from a secure server" warning (I think this is due to the email site pulling adverts for the advertiser's site). Since my two main email accounts are Yahoo mail and Hotmail (Microsoft), blocking non secure sites will give Google a good excuse to block it's two main competitors!

From what I have read, this is a highly unlikely move. SSLs on shared IPs, such has most inexpensive hosting accounts, are a pain in the cock and/or vagina. Until IPV6 is in full swing, there won't be enough dedicated IP addresses to make it practical.

I think it's already part of their algo in some way. For many years people have been suggesting a certificate will increase rankings. However, it could be that the dedicated IP did the trick and not SSL.

Maybe Google wants to start selling SSL services? |

Something is percolating over there. Check out today's post on the official Google blog regarding HTTPS. |
