Sleepy Monday July 13th (aka I'm A Hurtin Puppy!)

Morning!

The Bitch & I had a fucking GREAT time at the concert last night. We both agreed that Def Leppard put on a good show, but Tesla sounded the best out of all of them!

They were ok, but I'm not exactly a fan. Plus, right in the middle of their set, whoever the new Dennis DeYoung is played piano/keyboards & sang Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time) / Bohemian Rhapsody / (Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay by himself. It STUNK!! But, Tommy Shaw is still a fucking Rock God!

I saw the same concert last month in W Palm Beach, but Vivian had just started his latest round of cancer treatments.
Yup - he was there, but he's not Steve Clark. I'm sure he's great in his own right, but his solos took me out of a couple of my favorite songs

So anyway, I'm exhausted, my back & neck are killing me, and I feel VERY old today

Just finished putting all the towels and sheets for my guest room in the washer. I barely saw this house guest and he left at 5 this morning. Oddly the room really smells like gay guy so I've opened the windows in the room and shut the door for a few hours. I have a student coming in on Thursday that asked me if it is ok if she just stays in the room with the door closed when she isn't in class which is fine with me. I really like these house guests that I barely see.

Other than that just a day of work along with some house cleaning. A friend is getting back into town today so I'll probably have a few beers with her later and maybe a movie too.

Good Morning

Finished putting my office together for the most part yesterday so I am in it and working. Feels good to be in here. TV and surround sound is set up and even got some stuff up on the shelves like my very little group of Dr Who stuff. Speaking of Dr Who

Well my day had been shit up to now, but having seen JustRobert's post I have cheered up considerably. But how come, even though I live in the country of Dr Who, the first I hear of the new series is from the other side of the planet?

Can't see why the trailer is widescreen, as the series won't be. Sadly I had just disconnected my projector from the computer before coming here, so only saw it strip wise on the monitor (small academy ratio monitor), so I'll have to take another look when I have the projector hooked up to the computer again.

Yes, I think since Steven Moffat took over (the BBC have wanted it in 1080 for even longer, but Russel T Davis always refused, when he left, Steven Moffat had no such reservations).

However I'm talking about aspect ratio. Most TVs are in 16:9 ratio and all modern TV shows are produced that size. That trailer was in 29:9, which is what us old 'uns call "widescreen". On a normal TV it will be letterboxed, like movies used to be when TVs were in 4:3 (academy ratio).

Actually, I was on the XP box when I watched that trailer! Nothing as modern as 7 for me (my "up to date" machine is Vista).

I was also watching it on an academy ratio monitor (4:3), which is a size TVs have not been for years.

Weirdly, although I have a modern 16:9 TV my most modern TV is the projection TV which is 4:3. I'm guessing this is because, as well as projecting TV, DVD and BluRay, it also projects video and computer, both of which still mostly use academy ratio. And you can scale up a 29:9 if you are projecting in that format.
