Good Day

Back home, nice trip, and doing a little work but will need to go outside and do some house work before the grandson comes over because we are expecting a week of rain. Can't remember the last time we had a week of rain. All that rain will give me an excuse to just work on biz stuff.

Spent the weekend house sitting for my friend (the owner of the puppy). Was not a good weekend. When I arrived they were waiting for the plumber, who arrived an hour late (after my friends had left).

The problem was that the sinks were blocked with fat. Because it is a penthouse, the fat has a long way to drop, and it had blocked several floors down. Boiling water did not do the trick, and the cable thingy ("cable thingy" is, I believe, the correct technical term) was too short to reach. They spent hours trying to get to the blockage, no luck. Eventually they disappeared, promising to return on Monday with a longer cable thingy, leaving me unable to use the sinks in the kitchen or dining room.

His kitchen is about three steps higher than the dining room, and what I did not know is that his ice maker wastes a lot of water, pumping it out down the drain. Overnight this came out at the lowest point above the blockage, which was the sink in the dining room.

His apartment is "upside down", with the bedrooms downstairs, and the kitchen and dining room upstairs. I woke this morning to find that the ice machine had filled and overflowed the sink, turning the stairs into a waterfall. Great start to the day.

Then, while I was trying to sort the flood out, one of the dogs discovered that because of the flood he could not get upstairs to get out on the roof (their "garden"), so craped on the hall carpet.

Not a fun morning!
