weird server problem

This has my admin stumped..maybe someone can shed some light on it..
I have 6 domains on a dedicated server..nothing is putting a heavy load on the server at all..one domain takes a VERY, VERY long time to load both from the root index.html and the inside index.shtml..pages are not exceptionally large, in fact the root index.html is almost the same exact page as another index.html on a different domain that loads like lightening..not using ssi or php invocations at all..
I have the server set to parse both php and ssi..when he makes it parse just php, this site in particular is fast as hell..when he makes the server parse both, this is the only slow site..
any ideas..?? would be a real help..

very weird..

thanks a bunch

Do you have a .htaccess in the domain folder or any folders below the domain?

yes...I've always had htaccess in the root and a few other folders..but there are htaccess files in all my domains..could this be a reason?? this particluar one is huge..has a huge number of ip's in the accept, deny, allow part...

You could always try removing the .htaccess and seeing if the speed improves... and if so, then look at the .htaccess contents for the problem.

If you have changed hosting or IPs recently.. it could also be a DNS issue.. and might even be no more than your local ISP holding bad DNS info in cache (if its slow for you but other people seem to think the domain loads ok for them).

Well ain't you da man!!
It was the htaccess..
I had an addition accept, alloe, deny on the bottom with a bazillion ip's and domain names I wanted to not even have access..
took it off and bingo!! site is like lightening..

but..that leaves me with another problem..
I guess I will have to ask about a server accept or deny (not too familiar with apache..) because all those ip's and domains are up to no good and I need to make sure they can't have any access to my domains..

thank you!!

You can use more wild cards in your htaccess. This sometimes makes for a less secure htaccess, but one that loads faster since it will often have less lines.

You could include a simple php script into each page that checks your list of banned referrers and wont let them load html pages.. that might be faster but it wont protect images etc
