Are you sure this is the Sci-Fi Convention? It's full of nerds!

![]() had the #34 spot for "free porn" on yahoo for a couple of months then, like a fuckin dumbass put a console on the index page and now i cant be found anywhere as of last weekend...
needless to say i yanked the script and was wondering if anyone knew how often yahoo re-indexes or if i have just lost that spot forever because of this bone head move? somebody give me hope ![]() |

Security Man I have no idea how Yahoo works. I know Tijuana-Escorts started the month off with Yahoo's first listing under
tijuana escorts, then slid to the third spot and is now back to number one. I hope that gives you the hope your looking for|rasta|

well, its something at least LOL
i was hoping someone could say the exact same thing happened to them because for all intents and purposes it looks like yahoo has just flat out put my site at the bottom of any result, almost like its been blacklisted. i cant think that a popup code would have that kind of an effect, but it sure seems like it |

Sec_man, I haven't heard anyone claim that they've figured out the new yahoo yet, but I doubt that adding a popup was what got you bumped.
I would suspect the natural ebb and flow of any SE listing first of all. In that case, the only solution is to wait and see. Second possibility: a lot of link lists have not been showing up in yahoo, maybe you got enough recip linking action going on to fall under that penalty. Maybe try to get more non-recip linking happening. Bottom line - nobody knows. |

What Bill said...
It is unlkely that the pop-up code did the damage, but with yahoo who knows. My money would be on 800 new spammers being above you. ![]() DD

well, the reason im thinking its the popup code is because there used to be a cashed snapshot of the page and now that is gone too... as a matter of fact i havent seen any cashed pages if they have consoles of any kind... i wonder if yahoo has the same problem that google did there for a while with javascript and its spider?
oh and i dont think it is spam that did it either cuz almost all the ones above or below me are still there (at least the ones i remember) and my site isnt anywhere to be found at yahoo at all unless you search for the domain and .com - the free porn listing was just the best one ... i lost all my placements for any term and the only thing that changed was the popup code

My money would still be on "normal fluctuation" as Bill said, but it will be interesting to see if the listing returns with the pop gone.

Hey Securityman, I've got a bunch of sites that do well with Yahoo but haven't been able to figure out why. Please do let the board know if and/or when your site comes back.

You can optimize your site for yahoo about as much as you can optimize your wrist for a hot hand of dice.

It's no skin off my nose what anybody believes, and like Jay and I have said, nobody understands the new yahoo.
But I'm curious, is there anyone among the people here who follow the SE's that thinks a javascript popup code can have any effect on yahoo ranking. If you think it's possible, speak up please. I find myself wondering wether cnn and nyt, both of which use javascript popups on almost every page, show up in yahoo. |

well, only time will tell and obviously i have no clue one way or the other (else i wouldnt have started the thread LOL) but logically the only thing that changed was the code, and i did put it pretty high in the html so thats what makes me think its the issue
one thing is for sure, if and when it comes back i will let yall know so hopefully i will be able to post that news soon ![]() |

WHO IS FONZY!?! Don't they teach you anything at school?
|
Please forgive a maybe ignorant question, but what exactly do you mean by a "console"?
A banner, half page graphics or? So from this discussion, I assume that Yahoo and perhaps other punish someone for putting a console on their index page, why? What the heck is the logic of that? I mean in this multimedia age! Do they want us to go back to the stoneage? Last edited by AdultsiteReview; 2004-07-01 at 06:43 PM.. |

Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

I doubt it's the console too. I have many sites that are ranking well on Y that have blur consoles on em.
I have noticed that highly competitive phrases, like "free porn" return very different looking results than less competitive phrases, so I guess it's possible that the algo (or whatever it is) that causes that difference could be sensitive to consoles. Also, if you'll notice, the sites that are ranked for "free porn" are some pretty heavywieights and probably get a lot of links pointing to them. What that says about the recip-linking theory, I don't really know. How many sites that link to The Hun get a link back. I'm betting it's a pretty small percentage. I've heard that Y is placing more weight on "on page" factors, like keyword density, than other SE's.
