So, what is the lesson to be learned in your situation? When you're caught between a rock and an asshole the only thing that can come out is shit?

Pretty amazing you could let that go so long. Did you ever meet that guy in real life or was it all via E-mail and phone interaction?

Great fortitude to come out swinging again after such a hard blow financialy and spirit wise.
We were best friends until he screwed me. But, he screwed everyone that he did business with including the webmasters, talent, tech and host.

jim,

that is by far the worst case of getting screwed over I've ever heard. I had a friend who owned a comic book store with a partner. For 3 years they worked and were saving money to get a better location. One day when they were about 3 months from moving ( they had saved the money they needed ) he got a call from a delivery driver telling him the store was closed( his parter was scheduled to open that day ) so he went down and opened up. He figured his partner was sick or something bad had happened like he got in a car wreck. He couldn't find his partner for 3 days then he realized that all the money in the company account was gone. His partner had withdrew every cent they had saved over 3 years for the new store and disappeared. He ended up going out of buisness about 2 months later. It was bad, but not like your's Ultracash was the first sponser I ever used and got any kind of decent size checks from I always had wondered what happened to them.

As for can you make a living. Sure if you are willing to work. a year ago I lost control of 5 domains that I own ( it's a long story that is 20% my fault this happened and 80% nestol's fault ) 3 of those domains had little or nothing on them the other 2 made up a huge portion of my sites. When I lost them I lost about 80% of my income. In the last year I've been working hard and am about 70% back to where I was. So you can do pretty decent if you work and are willing to keep learning

I grew up in my family's A/C contracting and construction business. Partners, business associates, people in general fuck you over in all businesses.

Greed, egos, and stupidity cause people to do some really fucked up things. |raygun|

It's nice when you find people that you can trust.

Looks like you came out ahead Jim.

Sorry, I didn't mean both hands.

Trust has to be earned over time. There are times when I trust nobody.

I've totally forgotten what this thread was about...........

"Honest Opinions On Potential In This Business after 99"

The number of hits to make a dollar is a good point (Jim). Profit margins are good now because bandwidth is so cheap. In the old days hosting was a nightmare, but sales were easy.

I've learned that you should never put all your money on partnership business even if it's your best friend since you were 7.

Money does strange things to people.

I read that story, and indeed, that is a very sad lesson in how horrible people can treat friends and loved ones when money is involved. I used to live in your neck of the woods (Syracuse) and got screwed over by my brother-in-law who was my partner in a few Dunkin Donuts shops so I can remotely relate.

Atleast you learn from your misstakes. I've lernt some things last years.

1) Never put your whole budget on one single venture.
2) Don't partner up without lots of legal papers involved and clear before you start.
3) Never try to hide tax money, even if it's and old misstake few years back. It'll bite your ass and it hurts.
