IPs and SE links

Hi I have a number of small sites on one server/ip# some link to each other as is relavent. Is it true that SEs rate these links lower than say if each domain had its own ip# or was on a different server.
Many thanks for any help

It's less true than it used to be.

However, as yahoo and msn gain as sources of se traffic, it may become more important again- this has yet to be proved, but is certainly considered a real possibility.

It depends on how serious you are about getting the extremely small margins of advantage that are the essence of SE marketing.

As Bill said...

Plus.... I know a number of people that have everything they own on one IP.. and still rank well in multiple engines...

I have not seen "proof" one way or the other.

I personally use and recommend multiple servers.

I have a favored server for linklist freesites but try to spread freesites across several servers, because sooner or later your server is going to be down when the linkbots or SE spiders go thru, and with multiple servers you don't lose all your listings at once.

Having everything on one class IP makes you much easier to flag if your SEO technique comes into question. If you are planning a very agressive SE strategy I would go with separate IPS, class C's, and registering the domains to different entities.

I know a lot people that have everything on one IP and crosslinked that wound up banned.

I would rather err on the side of caution.
