Submitter Licience Codes

Ok, having just come back after a long time off, I notice now that a lot of the link sites have resorted to closed submissions
How does one go about getting a code for such places:

Ie DangerDaves now says you have to submit for a review request to get a code but there is no place to do so. So I am assuming that unless you know him now you can't ever submit to him????

the only place I can submit too at the moment that has a code is Cleo's but not going to start submittion till I can do a full recip table on the page, not worth it for anyone if I do now

I took care of that other thread of yours for you.

Yeah mine is instant, not sure how long it will stay that way.

Tommy is charging unless your were grandfathered in, try doing a submit and see what happens.

LOR is still open without a submit pass as are some other places.

Make a free site and start submitting it and see what each place says. Many places are using niche specific recips so you will have to go to many places to grab the correct recip anyway.

Well I have now started to create a very indepth spreadsheet of link sites LOL

I have found several that I wouldn't even bother submitting too, when did this stop being a business?
I can't believe what I have seen on some submit pages. You know I know we sling porn, and we say a great many things to people to get them to click, but being swore at on a rules page is really bad. I know that submissions get stupid at times, I ran 2 link lists, but when you can't even talk professionally to those that submit to you then something is wrong.

Going to take a month just to come up with good recip tables for submissions some what 3 to 6 other recips on a page, but their rules don't match any other site just doesn't make sense to me.....

Our rules are pretty simple, and we won't swear at you. Recip required, one submission/domain/day, no popups or other scripting tricks, content must be on same domain submitted. There are other rules, but we're flexible on them if we like the content. The most common reason for rejection is that we've already seen the gallery too many times.

I come from the time when link list owners where happy to have submissions. It meant a few more hits their way and bookmarkers for them. As site builders we gave them the content they needed to run a link site. Yes I know there is more than enough sites to fill thousands of link sites. But there is always a hit from somewhere that you didn't have and who knows that hit could be a sale somewhere on something. And good quality submissions are not always what comes in.

I know that many of the crap sites out there make for tiring reviews and I know all about reviewing sites. Not only did I have 2 links sites but I have been an editor at dmoz for over 4 years now I think. It is frustrating and tiring. With my link sites though I always try to look for reasons to list a site who knows maybe that page will hit a #1 spot on a se and having my listing there will only help me not hinder me. I can understand the closed submissions that happening now. To try to keep out the spam submissions that I am sure these owners get now a days with all the submission software. There will always be those that abuse anything and everything that comes out to help us do our JOB more effectively and effiecenetly.(sp) LOL tired already lol. But that is the bigger picture this is still a JOB and I have seen way too many people that seem to forget that the purpose of this is to make money not supply their bookmarks with tons and tons of free content without barely a chance to make a buck.

I remember when most of the big guys thought dmoz rules were too strick, now those same guys have rules much stricker than dmoz....

SusieS - Im sure you remember the time when 90% of the submissions to DMOZ were spam - oh yeah - they still are LOL
Seriously though - as a LL owner - and someone that gets a good amount of submissions every day (some days close to top 100s than the lower 100s) while I do look for reasons to list someone, I have also been put in the situation where I look not only at the autosubmit signatures, the content (sponsor or not) etc, but I have to look to boards like this to see who really is trying (or at least use some judgement to try to figure that out) to do good things on a regular basis.
I also have a group of people that I know are trying their best to scam their way into LLs based on posts they make on other boards, mostly in other East European languages, with one thing in mind - to do the least work for the most return. I give them a lot of credit as they do definitely work hard to that end, although I disagree somewhat with their approach, but I also have to take a second look at their submits and what happens in the time range of 3-4 months down the line.
Working at DMOZ there are a few things that help out with finding redirects and changes that affect the listing - although the awesome work of the editors does so much more to ensure the quality of the listings in the long run - but I have to take that same mentality when making decisions on my linklists.
Sure ny bots find some of the easier errors, but when you are hand-checking over 10,000 links every 3 weeks, it gives you a little more jaded view of the approaches used by some submitters.
I have to agree that some LLs have gone too far as far as expressing their views - but then I know of a few of the older LLs that list their views with a little swearing - but I cant disagree with them either - they have been sworn at hundreds of times a week by pissed off WMs that slap sponsor content into a template they stole from the LL owner and then expect to be listed It has definitely changed in the last 4 years - in some ways for the better and others definitely has gone downhill

Oh I don't disagree with your points at all, trust me as one whom has spent a great deal of time trying to clean up unreviewed at dmoz only to get a cat down to almost nothing and find the next day 1000 + new submissions too that cat and 90% + is spam, that is an open directory where the rules for acceptence isn't as clearly stated.

I think it is great that link sites have a clearly defined set of rules. Make my job as a submitter somewhat easier less guess work.

And I think what a great deal of the link sites have done to increase pr is awesome, a lot of hard work has gone into it I know.

But some of the more pickier rules make it hard to even want to bother with some of the link sites.....

So were the examples I sent you not good enough Dave? Or didnt you get to see them? I seem to remember a reply that you weren't accepting anymore... I have no idea what I have done wrong but my sites are good, I NEVER cheat and they used to be good enough for you to list. I have well over 50 templates and have used no sponsor content for 6 months. WHat do I have to do, drive for an hour and mow your lawn, kiss your feet?

I just wanted to comment on something posted by Linkster.

I realize that you are a senior member in awesome standing and you do provide juicy bits of knowledge that I, personally have used in my free site building techniques, but even you can make a mistake or two - you're not super human nor are you divine. You are by all accounts a human being, capable of making errors - just like the rest of us.

Obviously, there are going to be scammers out there, granted. But you should NOT automatically assume that everyone is a scammer - I know I am certainly not.

I have submitted sites to you recently (I'd say two in the past week alone) and I'll be damned if I find my links on your linklist.

My last 2 sites submitted included content that was paid for - I know - I paid for it - There were even a few linklists that have even sent me rejection emails within 10 minutes of receiving my submission saying "overused" content!!

Gimme a break!

While you haven't gone as far as saying "overused content" to me or my work (I doubt you go as far as even sending rejection emails) you have and correct me if I'm wrong, "assumed" that certain sites are just not up to your standards.

I am NOT trying to ruffle feathers in here. I like this board and most of the group that frequents this place; and I have learned an awful lot and my bottom line is starting to look like one - all because several good gals & guys like to give back a little to this fine community in here.

However, when LL owners allow certain "trash" to go through with pictures, banners or other images that are not visible or mis-spelling of words and pages that overflow across the screen, it kind of ruins it for those of us that really honestly do try to send LL owners like you, good work. Its quite frustrating.

I know I should probably shut my mouth but if I am going to get blacklisted because my political views are little more to the right (according to Jim of GG&Jim's, my political views may have lead to me getting my sites scrutinized moreso than other 'yes' men & women) than sheer anarchy, where is the fair play that all the top LL's profess, all of a sudden?

And definitely do not decide on listing sites based on political affiliation or even gender over here

Normally if bought content is in a free site the reviewers will automatically give it an extra bonus listing

As far as decline emails - for my "trusted" submitters - which you are one of - I do send out personal emails - not automated - if there is a problem
