AOL does it again

I knew they kept copies of IM logs but, hard to believe they actually admit it

Oh yeah - I knew they kept them too - the kids have had our family account suspended a couple of time for swearing & whatnot - so then I have to call AOL & ask them to send over the logs so I can bitch at them - little foul mouthed teenagers

do you have the parental settings set real high? that is good for when you have kids, but kinda freaky knowing that every conversation you have over the AIM system is being recorded and listened to

Oddly enough, that is another little bitch of mine with AOL - the kids are smart & most parents are dumb, so once I set the Parental Controls on their accounts, they figured out that could bug their friends for their un/pw's & log on under account that have no parental controls. I've asked AOL if there is a way to disable the "guest" option & they said now

So now they just burn their friend's accounts & I assume swear a lot

so they log on with unprotected accounts and AOL still suspends your accounts? I'm never sending another message thru aol again... that is just plain spooky... talk about having a very big brother watching over your shoulder... and how come AOL can do that, but we can't catch terrorists via the internet??

They have done for a few years now, and that's why I stopped using it. The ICQ installation also makes a few changes to your security settings - they used to add aol sites to the trusted zone, but there was a bit of a fuss about that, so I don't know if they still do that openly.

No - LOL - Once the kids realized that if they logged on under their friends usernames, they could go places they couldn't on their own screen names. This pet peeve I have with AOL has nothing to do with them getting our account suspended because of their cussing

I got stuck using AOL for a few years because my sister bought me a computer and sold my soul to them for a discount. While everyone else was upgrading to DLS and cable I was still on dial-up for ages. Then I kept it just because all my emails were on it, and when I decided to get off of it they gave me all kinds of trouble. I would not recommend them for anything.

Since you were on AOL, I give my condolences.

Why do people buy into that AOL bullshit?

I know a few of my friends use them as an ISP, even though there are at least a dozen ISPs that offer lower pricing (and better support and services).

I call AOL "the internet with training wheels"

My partner still uses it and I make sure to ridicule her at least once a day

I actually always keep a copy of AOL on my drive.

I don't have a dialup account since I use WiFi all the time but if I ever get stuck someplace that doesn't I can open up AOL, give them my CC and create an account, then have a dialup connection. A lot of people don't realize that once you are logged in with AOL you can run your regular web apps. AOL has local dialup numbers just about anywhere.

Other then that it is shit. lol

LOL, not to scare you even more...but every single website you go to, every single chat...every single bit of data that goes through your modem or nic is recorded somewheres, and has been for years.
No matter who your isp is.
Of course with the overwhelming amount of data being transferred every second on the net, actually identifying that data is damn near impossible...but not impossible.
Big Brother is watching!
